3rd POV
"You're leaving already?" Martha questioned, voice laced with distraught. She took a seat on her son's bed watching him pack his things.
Clark sighed. "I've been gone too long." He told her, stuffing his old football team sweatshirt in his suitcase. "It's time I head back to Metropolis."
"I know..." Martha placed a hand over her forehead leaning her head down. "The world needs Superman." Clark gave her a sympathetic smile and nodded.
Martha nodded watching her son continue to pack his belongs into a suitcase. "Ok," Was all she said as she quietly excused herself from his room closing the door behind her.
Clark watched his mother leave his room distraught. Throwing his clothes down he sat on the head placing his head in his hand in thought.
Knocking on the ajar door lightly, Clark pushed it open to see his mom sitting on her bed unpacking her boxes of clothes. Walking in the room, Clark looked around and saw a photo of his father and himself holding two small catfish in their hands while Martha stood behind a small Clark with her hands placed on his shoulders.
"Mom," Clark called, taking a seat beside her.
"...Clark." She mumbled, quietly, laying down her sweater in her lap. "You're my only son, Clark. My only living family. I just got you back and now you're ready to leave." Tears slid down Martha's face turning toward her son. "This house...It's quiet." Martha looked down in her lap feeling her eyes begin to burn with tears. "Empty and at times loneisome."
Clark gazed toward his mother his heart tearing at his words having no idea how she was feeling. Regret stirred in him as he had ponder little on his mother's feelings.
Clark closed his eyes for a moment, hanging his head. "I'm sorry, ma. So, much has happened and I'm just trying to make things right. I just want my life back," Clark explained, placing his hand over his mother's. "Don't get me wrong I enjoyed every second being here with you, helping around the farm, but...I don't want the world to think differently of me."
Martha shook her head. "Don't move too fast to correct things only to make a mess in the process." She advises him. "Enjoy the life you have been given with the love ones you have here now. The world will think what it wants. You just be Clark Kent and being Superman will come later." She smiled softly, placing a hand on his cheek.
Clark looked at her with a smile and nodded. "I promise to fly back here every chance I get. Just as I done before." Martha smiled wiping the tears from her eye. Clark leaned over grabbing his mother in an embrace.
........
"Thank you for everything, Miss Kent," Mia said as she hugged Martha in a tight embrace.
"Of course," Martha said as they released from the embrace. After packing Clark's belongs from his old apartment and a few other of his store possessions from Clark's childhood it was time to say good-bye. Lana left right after the Harvest Festival as she had to return to work soon. However, she promised that she would visit Clark and Mia in Metropolis soon. Clark told her if she needed anything do not hestitate to call him. And in return he promise to visit her in New York.
Sling the last bag over his shoulder Clark smiled at his mother as she opened her arms for an embrace. "Be careful flying home, son." Martha spoke softly, resting her head on her son's shoulder.
