*Prom Night*
*One Month Later*I pulled out my phone, looking up 'how to tie a tie" on YouTube. Today was prom, and like usual, I'm going alone.
I followed the tutorial and adjusted my suit. My mom had helped me by it before her death. It was a simple black one, with a white shirt underneath. I just wore a plan tie, not wanting to stick out too much.
I heard a creak and turned around to see Mary peaking through the door crack.
"You're getting ready for prom?" She asked.
I nodded.
"Then I'm going to help!"
"What?" I said, laughing a little. "I don't need help."
"Yes you do. It looks like you haven't slept in a week." She said, motioning to my blood shot eyes and bags.
That's because I haven't.
I sighed. "I guess your right."
"I'll be right back!" She said, running off somewhere. I shrugged and continued to put my hair back in a ponytail.
After a minute in she came running in, with a bag full of makeup.
"Woah, woah, woah. Hold up. I'm not wearing all that." I answered, motioning to the pile of makeup.
"Why not?"
"Because I don't want to feel like a Barbie doll. And I'm going to be wearing a mask the whole night."
She nodded. "At least let me to some concealer and mascara."
"Fine..." I sighed.
Despite being only twelve, she seemed to know what she was doing. She applied the concealer under my eyes, then almost poked my eye out with the mascara wand. Then, despite my objections, she made me wear a thin layer of lip gloss.
"How do I look?" I asked, kind of nervous.
"Like a princess." She said, winking at me, before grabbing all her makeup and leaving the room.
I looked in the mirror. She did good! I don't look like a trash can as much!
I heard a horn outside, indicating that my ride was here. I grabbed my house keys, my phone, and the mask I was wearing.
This year the theme for prom was "Masquerade" so everybody is wearing a mask. I chose a simple black one, with silver glitter on the edges.
I went down the stairs, waving goodbye to my siblings and started to open the door when I heard a voice behind me.
"Where are you going?"
I turned around to see none other than the one and only Henry Laurens glaring at me.
"I'm going to prom, sir." I said, tightening my grip on my phone.
"Are you bringing a girl with you?"
I felt myself start to sweat. "N-no sir."
"Of course you don't." He scoffed. He waved his hand at the door. "Go. Get out of my sight."
On that note, I raced out the door towards Laf's car. Herc was in the front with him, so I sat down in the back. Usually, Alex would be in the seat beside me, but Eliza's sister offered to give them a ride. I forgot her name, Angela or something.
"What took you so long?" Herc asked, referring to the fact that I took a few minutes to get outside.
"N-nothing, I just couldn't find my keys." I lied.
He nodded and faced Laf, and they both started to talk.
I couldn't help but feel like I was third wheeling. They aren't dating, but everybody knows that they like each other.
We pulled up to the school, and we all got out the car.
I pulled down my mask as we started to make our way towards the gym.
This should be fun.
