I slowly opened my front door, and snuck through the living room. I looked at the couch and saw my dad passed out on it. I let out a small sigh.
It's currently four in the morning, and I had just spent the whole day with Laf, Herc, and Alex. We all binge watched Disney and marvel movies at Laf's house. We all left late.
I snuck up the stairs and slowly entered my room. My eyes widened. Both Martha and James were asleep on my bed. Mary and James were both awake, sitting on my couch. They both had a few bruises on their face.
I gasped, and ran towards them, inspecting the bruises. "What happened?!"
"Oh you know what happened." Mary snapped, pushing me away.
"W-what?" I said, shocked at her sudden outburst.
"It was dad, stupid."
Guilt flooded me. I wasn't able to protect them.
"Where were you?!"
"I was with Laf, Herc, and Alex."
She scoffed. "Of course you were."
"What's that supposed to mean?" I said, starting to get annoyed. "What's your problem?"
"You're always with them, especially when we need you."
"I'm sorry that I have a life." I said, although it sounded more like a question.
She rolled her eyes. I felt fury rise in me. "What's all this about?! Laf and Herc are like brothers to you!"
"It's about the fact that you're never here when we need you!"
I look at her in disbelief. "I've always been here!"
She scoffed and crossed her arms. "Yeah right. We both know that's a lie."
I wanted to scream. She has no idea how much of my life I have sacrificed for them.
I looked over at the bed and saw James stirring.
"Mary, please stop..." Henry pleaded.
"No! I won't stop! I'm tired of him acting like he's the only one who's affected by moms death."
"I'm sorry, what?" I said, at a loss for words.
"Yeah, you heard me. You act all depressed and shit, and leave us to deal with dad."
Act all depressed.
The words echoed in my head.
"Mary, let it go..." Henry continued to plead.
"You have never gotten the brunt of dads wrath." I said, clenching my fist. "Don't give me a speech about dad."
"You know what?! If your never going to be here, you can just leave. We don't need you."
We don't need you.
I felt my eyes start to water.
"Mary why are you yelling at Jacky..." James tiredly said.
"Because he's a useless prick!"
"Mary, shut up!" Henry exclaimed.
They don't need you.
"No, she's right." I said, grabbing my bag. "I'll go."
Before Henry could say anything, I slammed open the door, and ran outside. It was raining, but it didn't matter. Nothing did.
I couldn't tell if it was the rain or my tears that fell down my face. I don't know where I'm going.
They don't need you. They're better without you.
I wiped the water off my face, for only more to follow in its path.
They'll be glad that your gone.
I continued to mindlessly walk, like I was in a trance. Until I finally stopped. I blinked, taking in where I had gone to.
The bridge.
