*Lafayette's POV*

We returned with the coffee in our hand as we made our way to John's room.

As we approached, I noticed a figure leaning against the wall, right next to the door.

At closer look, I realized it was Alex.

"Alex? Mon ami, what are you doing out here?" I asked.

"Oh, Mary came and wanted to speak to John. She's in there now."

Mary?!

Shit shit shit.

"What the fuck?!" I exclaimed, startling a few near by nurses.

"Sorry." Herc apologized, and they shrugged, getting back to work.

I swung open the door, startling Mary, who was sitting next to John. She had her head in her hands.

She looked up to see who had came in, and I realized that her eyes were red from crying and her face was covered in tears.

"I-I'm sorry." She choked out. "It's m-my fa-fault."

We all stood there, stunned.

"It's not your fault, Mary..." Alex said, looking like he wanted to comfort her.

"Y-yes it is. All of it. Mom, now John."

I raised a eyebrow in confusion. I understood the John part, but what about Eleanor?

"What do you mean?"

"M-mom. I'm the reason she was in the car." She choked out another sob. "I forgot my f-flute and I had band practice, so I asked her t-to pick it up. If I hadn't forgotten it, s-she would be here!"

Alex ran over and hugged her, as she cried. I wanted to do the same, but I was stuck in the same spot, processing this information.

Is that why Mary had said those things? Because she was mad at herself?

"N-now John is in a fucking coma because of me. Because I blamed him for my mistakes. I m-made him attempt to kill him self!" She screamed, mostly angry at herself. She let out a few angry sobs.

Alex's eyes widened, since I never told him about what had sent John over the edge.

"Mary, that wasn't your fault.." I said, still slightly angry at what she said to John, but also sympathetic. "John was depressed before you said those things..."

"Depressed? He was depressed?" She said, momentarily stopping her tears.

Oh shit. They didn't know? But Henry knew, that's why he called me.

She started crying again. "I told my depressed brother that I didn't need him?!"

Well that didn't help.

Herc stayed silent.

"Does Henry know that you're here?" I asked, slightly concerned.

"N-no. I snuck out." She said, starting to calm down a little.

"You snuck out?!" Herc exclaimed, shocked. "Henry must be so worried!"

"I-I left a note?"

"What did the note say?" Herc questioned.

"That I would be out for awhile..."

"Mary!" We both exclaimed.

"What?!"

"You didn't tell him where you were going?!" I asked.

"No? I didn't think it was important!"

Herc and I both facepalmed.

"I'll call Henry..." Herc said, pulling out his phone as he left the room.

We stood there in silence for a few minutes.

"He's going to be okay, right?" Mary asked, looking scared.

"He'll be okay." I reassured. "He's strong."

He has to be okay.
