"Jacky?" I heard a small voice call out from the door way.

"James? What are you doing up?" I asked the four year old.

"I h-had a nightmare." James said, frowning.

"What was it about?" I asked, moving over to give room for him on my bed. I patted the extra space, signaling for him to sit next to me.

"I d-dreamed that e-everybody else left like mommy. That I was a-alone."

"O-oh. Well, why did you come to me?"

"B-because, last time I went to dad he y-yelled at me." The young boy frowned, sniffing. "I miss mommy. She never yelled at me."

He started to cry, as I hugged his small body. "I miss her too."

"When's she coming back?"

I felt my heart pounding. They had asked this before, but I didn't know what to say. But I think I finally have the answer.

"She never left." James looked at me, confused. "She's always with us, watching over us. Even when she's not physically with us, she's here."

"Is she watching us now?" He asked, tipping his head to the right slightly.

I chuckled a little. "Yeah."

James reached out and buried his head in my chest, curling up.

After a few moments of silence, I looked down at James, confused why he wasn't saying anything. He had fallen asleep.

I smiled slightly to myself before setting him on my bed, as I fell back asleep next to him.
