Chapter 14

8 Days til Birthday
1st Person- Harley

Standing up from my bed I looked over at the cable box seeing it was 7:45.

"Dammit low" I mumbled as I hurriedly slipped on a jacket and slippers grabbing my purse and bag

"Lyric!" I called out opening her room door

"Faith baby. Y'all wake up and get ready" I said before rushing down the hall to Harlow's room

"Harlow! Lyres! Y'all got 10 minutes to get ready and get to school" I shook them awake

" I thought you were taking them" Harlow sat up throwing the covers to the side

"I am, you're gonna be late for work though" I told her pulling lyres off the bed

"Monica left already hurry up and get dressed" I gave him a small shove to get him going

Going back to the guest room I washed up and brushed my teeth before going to check on the kids

"Alright come on, grab a pop tart on your way out" I hurried them along grabbing jackets and their bags

Once I got them in the car I hurried them off to school only making them a good 6 minutes late.

Monica

"You coming straight home after work?" I asked Lazarus as we sat in McDonalds parking lot.

"I was gon run to the store, why you got something planned" he looked over as he stuffed fries in his mouth

"Gotta take faith to get lyric a few things for her birthday, and she needs new clothes so I can start donating the others, so I guess we can go together" I shrugged taking a bite of my own food.

"Aight dats cool, I was going for the limited edition 12s." He shrugged throwing his trash in the bag

"Alright I'll see you later then" I sighed cranking the car up

"Kiss" he leaned over puckering his lips

Kissing his lips I sat back watching him step out the car

"I'll see you later" he spoke through the rolled down window

"See ya" I waved

Once he made it across the street to his job I eased out of the parking lot before heading to pick Faith up from school.

"Hi Mommy" she yelled climbing in the back seat

"Hey beautiful" I turned making sure she buckled in

"How was school?" I asked the daily question

"Good, I learned about planets and the sun is a star, did you know that?" She excitedly explained

"I did, I learned that in school too babe" I laughed

"And guess what mama. Guest what else I learned!" She yelled leaning up

"What" I asked matching her enthusiasm

"Years And year's ago people like you and me were slaves. Slaves are people who were forced to work and treated mean." She explained

"What do you mean people like you and me" I quickly glance back

"People with brown skin mama, and even if you were really light skin the non colored people still made us work" she answered

"Who are the non colored" I laughed a little

"White people" she whispered causing me to laugh

"Good job baby, I'm so proud of you" I quickly glanced in the back seat
