Methods And Fun

The next day Jack decided to do a little research. To see if there were any other ways to train that would give him faster results. What he found was that there were two different ways of improving one's strength. The first was the training method. Which he had been doing currently and the other was the exposure method. This involved improving through many battles that would stress a fighter so much. That it would force them to improve to try and survive. He figured at his current level he wouldn't be strong enough to go the exposure route. Still, he needed to figure out a way to get better results from his training.

While Jack was thinking about this, he heard a knock on his door.

" Who is it?"

" Allen."

" Come in."

" Jack, you haven't been out of your room all day, what exactly have you been up to?"

"Research."

" Don't push yourself too hard, why not have some fun?"

" But I need to work."

" Yeah, but surely a little break wouldn't hurt, right?"

" I guess not."

" Then come on, I know somewhere fun we can go!"

Jack followed Allen to the outskirts of the base.

" Are you sure about this? What if we get attacked by one of those rheonos again?"

" Don't worry, only small animals live in this part and besides, the one we saw was rare for this part of the planet."

" Maybe we should get the others. Just in case something goes wrong," Jack said and was about to head back but Allen grabbed his arm.

" Do you trust me?"

" Well, yeah but-"

" Then be quiet and follow me. I already talked to the others, said they were busy. That's why I asked you."

" So, in other words, you wanted to pick me last?"

" Nah, it's not like that. But I figured you were taking the day to rest a bit. And I figured I'd let you do that while I asked the others if they wanted to come."

After quite a long hike, Jack asked, where exactly it was they were going.

"You'll see, one of the cadets showed me this spot. Just a little longer till we're there."

They eventually came across an extremely tall cliff.

" Allen, I think we went the wrong way."

" No, we didn't."

" Then which way do we go?" Jack asked, confused.

Allen pointed upward in response.

" Seriously?! Why didn't you tell me we had to do some climbing."

" Cuz, I knew you wouldn't come and aren't you looking for ways to train better? Think of this as practice."

" Point taken," Jack said then began to climb, alongside Allen.

" Almost there, Jack! You can make it!" Allen called down to Jack.

"This better be worth it!" Jack said, climbing the last few steps up the cliff.

" See? You could do it after all."

" What's up here that's so special anyway?"

" See fer yourself," Allen said, cocking a thumb behind himself.
