"I'm not sure what I expected, but this actually isn't too bad." You said as you sorted through the duffel bag, "Mic definitely had his mind set on me looking punk rock for the next couple days though.—well, except for the dress."
"I'm not quite sure how he fit these in there with everything else." Aizawa said as he hung the short dress and black leather jacket up on empty hangers in his closet.
Aizawa froze with his hand still resting on the leather jacket.
"Y/N..."
"Yea what's up?" You asked looking up from the bag, "oh."
The thread had grown two feet longer without either of you noticing.
"Ummm..." you frowned, "I thought the bad guy said it couldn't lengthen without us being uncomfortable."
"He did." Aizawa said apprehensively, "I'll call down to the station during the first study period and see if there's anything in that guy's record that he didn't mention."
You nodded before turning your attention back to your bag, "maybe it's just that the quirk starts weakening the closer we get to the final day?"
"Maybe."
"Well, at least it's a change for the better." You said absently, thinking about being able to dress yourself easily now.
"...Right."
"You okay?" You asked looking back at him as he leaned against the closet doorway, "You're being kind of quiet this morning."
"You say that like I'm usually a chatty person." He said flatly.
"I just meant you're being quiet even for you. Got something on your mind?"
"Not really," he said bluntly, "I'm curious as to what you had planned for me to dress in for today though."
You let out an excited gasp, "I almost forgot about that! You ready?"
"As much as I'll ever be." He sighed running his hand through his hair.
"You sure you're okay with doing this? We don't have to." You asked since he still seemed in a bad mood.
"Yea, I don't care as long as you don't try to put any makeup on me. That's not happening." He said resolutely.
You chuckled, "Don't worry, I never planned to. At most, I was gonna ask if you're cool with getting rid of the scruff for a couple days."
**********
A half hour later, Aizawa stood in front of the bathroom mirror dressed and clean shaven as you carefully combed his hair up into a nice -albeit messy- bun. You ended up picking out a simple white dress shirt and black slacks for him.
"I thought you said you were going to make me look hot this morning." Aizawa commented with a yawn as you began rolling up the sleeves on his shirt.
"You're joking, right?" You asked incredulously. Aizawa shook his head.
"Well, you were already attractive. I was just helping to make it more obvious to everybody else. Never underestimate the allure of a man in a nice button up shirt with the sleeves pushed up. Especially if they have really defined arms like yours." You said with exaggerated seriousness.
You finished and stepped back to admire your handiwork.
"Now it's my turn."
"What?" You asked, realizing you had been staring.
"You didn't really think I was going to be the only one doing this, did you?" He asked as he struggled against a mischievous smirk that threatened to appear.
*********
You fidgeted with the dark hem of the black and gray ombré dress as the two of you walked towards the main building.
An uncomfortable silence had settled between the two of you. For the past two days, the two of you had walked hand in hand everywhere you went. But now that the thread had lengthened, there was no logical reason for the two of you to continue holding hands as you went about your day.
Why does it feel so wrong to not be holding his hand?????? Would it be weird to ask if we could...—yea, no. It would definitely be weird. It's not like we're dating. Hell, we still barely know each other.... Damn this is frustrating!
"There's no reason for you to be so stressed, you look presentable."
You looked up and in the early morning light saw Aizawa watching you. His bangs waved gently in the cool fall breeze.
"Sorry no, I'm not stressed. It's just a bit chilly. I guess I should have grabbed my jacket before we left, huh?" You lied smoothly with a chagrin smile. Aizawa looked at the time on his watch, "We don't have time to go back before class begins."
You looked at the ground as you walked feeling embarrassed, "Oh no, I wasn't asking if we could go back! I'm totally fine, I just wanted to make sure you knew I wasn't stressing about anything."
Aizawa seemed to consider your explanation for a moment before nodding, "Very well then."
He wrapped an arm around your shoulder and pulled you against his side as he continued walking at a leisurely pace. Sensing your confusion, he spoke while keeping his eyes forward, "I'm normally not one for PDA or anything that may be misconstrued as such, but it'll be inconvenient for us both if you catch a cold."
You smiled and said a quiet thanks before putting your arm around his back.
Maybe it won't be such a cold winter after all...
