The pain wasn't nearly as intense as Aizawa's first encounter with the quirk, but it still left him gritting his teeth.
Aizawa called Mic and told him to expect a call from the station.
Mic's voice crackled through the speaker, "What are you gonna do that'll— Shō, no. If you found another way to track her, you can't go alone. Where are you? I'm leaving now."
"Mic, you can't come with me this time." Aizawa looked down at the glowing thread, "you need to be able to answer that call. We don't know for sure that Reina is with Y/N, we were making an assumption. For all we know, she could have just had her phone on silent and didn't notice your calls. —But you need to be ready in case we were right after all.
"I'm going to leave my phone on, but I'm putting it on silent. That way you'll still be able to track me, and see if Reina pings in the same area."
Aizawa sighed when he saw the thread disappear into the side of an apartment complex, "I gotta go. I'll update you if anything changes on my end."
"I still really don't like the idea of you going alone. Get another pro to go with you. I know you normally work alone dude, but this guy is seriously bad news."
"Mic, I'll be fine. We're not kids anymore, I know what I'm doing this time around."
"Yea, and I get that man —But Shō, im your best friend, it's my job to worry about stuff like this." Mic sighed, "You better call me the second things starts looking like they'll turn sideways."
"Obviously. Talk to you later, Mic."
"Yea, talk to you later man."
Aizawa ended the call before scanning the roof line of the surrounding buildings, I need to get to higher ground.

*Back at Hotel X*
"What the fuck is that?" Kurt asked as he dropped the to go bag on the dresser.
Oh, oh no.
"What are you going on about? There's nothing there." Derrick said as he swiped the greasy bag up. He tossed an aluminum wrapped burger in your direction. It landed with a slight bounce next to your head.
You had explained away your outburst earlier by claiming it had been caused by a sudden and intense cramp in your side. Kurt could see the thread, your worst fear had been realized.
Think, Y/N! Think!
Play dumb.
"Um, Are you talking about me?"
"No, you dumb bitch. I'm talking about the..." Kurt's hand phased through the thread when he tried to yank it, "What the fuck..."
"Are you feeling alright?" You asked as you gingerly slid off the side of the bed. You forced yourself to stand upright despite the searing pain that still coursed through your body. You approached him and hesitantly put a hand to his shoulder, "I think you aught to lie down for a bit. Are you feeling alright?"
Kurt stared at you looking throughly disturbed before batting away your hand, "What do you think you're doing? I'm fine. Get back on the fucking bed and stay there."
"I'm not doing anything?" You said in what you hoped was a reassuring -albeit confused- voice, "call it a force of habit from my job if you want, but I can't help but be concerned for you right now. There's... there's nothing there, sir." You gestured a foot to the left of where the thread was actually suspended in the air.
Derrick seemed to mull over the situation, trying to figure out which of us was telling the truth.
Derrick unwrapped his burger and asked, "Did something happen while you were out?"
"Could be because of a toddler. I know I've accidentally been on the receiving end of plenty inexperienced quirks." You suggested before lifting the side of your shirt to let the last stray flower petals fall to the carpet.
"Nothing happened!" Kurt looked at the thread wrapped around your wrist before glaring at you, "You're lying, I know you are. I don't know what you're planning, but I'm not sticking around for when shit hits the fan." Kurt fished his phone from his pocket and chucked it at Derrick, "The code's 0823. I'll see you at home if you're not dead or in jail when all this is over."
"Sentimental jackass." Derrick muttered after Kurt slammed the door behind him.
"What?"
"His passcode is my birthday" he explained as he pocketed the phone.
"I guess y'all are pretty close then?" You asked before taking a bite of your burger.
"Married 12 years this upcoming April." He sighed as he readjusted the gold ring on his finger.
"That's so sweet..."
Oh yikes.
Derrick's expression darkened, "What? You got a problem with that?"
"N-no, it's nothing like that," you shook your head quickly, "You just made me think of something when you said that is all."
... should I tell him?
"What was it?"
"My parents' wedding anniversary is coming up soon, and I don't have anything scheduled with the florist yet to send to their house to celebrate." You lied.
"I see." He took a large bite out of his own burger, "I'm pretty sure they're gonna understand why they won't be receiving flowers from you anymore."
You nearly dropped your burger at his words, he didn't even try to deny it.
Your hands shook slightly —wether it was from the pain or the fear that coursed through your body, you couldn't be sure.
Shota, please hurry...
"W-why are you being so nice to me?" You asked before you could stop yourself.
He shrugged before wiping his mouth with the back of his hand, "Seems wrong to make a person's last couple of hours worse than they gotta be."
Derrick cleared his throat and looked down to the burger in his hands, "I've met a lot of bad people in my time on this planet, but there's something really off about the guy that hired us."
