"I swear to God, Jade. This is the first and the last time that I pick you up early for school. You're lucky, I told your authorities that you have a doctor's appointment at Greyson's. The next time you pull me out of a meeting, I will have your head on a stick." Aunt Becky said, scolding me as she driving on the road.
"Yeah? I'd like to see you try." I snapped.
"Why did you call me anyway? Is everything all right with you?" Aunt Becky asked, sounding concern. "Since when do you worry about me?" I asked.
"Since the day I found out you started hurting yourself."
I furrowed my eyebrows, "What do you mean?" Aunt Becky gave me the side eye. "You know exactly what I mean. You, cutting yourself. A while ago, I found your...blade in the trashcan, which is a stupid place to hide something so...minacious." I felt a lump in my throat as I stared at the dashboard. The car went to a halt and the light was red. Aunt Becky looked at me and said, "Why do you do it? Why do you harm yourself, Jade. You're such a beautiful girl."
I scoffed as a tear fell down my left cheek. "Is that what you think this about? You think I cut myself because I have self esteem issues."
"No, I never said that. I was just..."
"Well, I don't. And I can't tell you why either. Now, will you just drop it?" Aunt Becky cleared her throat and said, "Fine. What's the address?" I took out my phone, opened up my messages, and showed her Emma's address. The car ride to Emma's was quiet and awkward because once again, I had myself and someone else in an uncomfortable situation. We finally made it to Emma's house and when we got to the doorstep, I knocked on the door but I didn't hear anything or anyone. I knocked again, yelling, "Emma!" Still zilch. That's it, I'm taking action. I banged on the door, only to discover that the door was cracked and it was quiet inside of the house.
"Wait, I'll go first." Aunt Becky said, walking in front of me. "Oh, now you want to protect me."
"Don't start with me, Jade or so help me, God. I will turn right back around and take you back to school." She warned as I rolled my eyes.
She walked in front of me and I followed behind her, closing the door. "Emma! Where are you?!"
"I'm in here!" She yelled. It sounded like she was down the hall. Aunt Becky and I ran towards the sound of her voice. We came to the end of the hall and there she was in the guest bathroom with blood around her. "Oh, God. Emma." I pushed past Aunt Becky and held her arms. "What happened?"
"I-I don't know. I just got up to...wipe myself and then I...saw blood. I saw blood." Emma cried. "Aunt Becky, what's wrong with her?" I asked as tears were forming in my eyes. "Is my baby okay?" Emma asked, holding her stomach and bending over in pain. She screamed in agony, "Oh, God. It hurts so much. What's happening to me?!"
Aunt Becky ran to Emma and caressed her face, "It's okay, honey. You're going to be fine." She said, reassuring Emma as she was bleeding out. I was still clueless as to what the fuck was going on? "We just need to get you to a hospital. It's nothing to worry about. Come on, let's you get you up nice and slowly." Aunt Becky said, grabbing Emma's hand as she was getting up slowly. "Hey, what's going on with her? Is she all right?" I asked, holding onto Emma as she was weeping. Aunt Becky gave me a stern look, "She's having a miscarriage. We need to get her to the emergency immediately."
"But that's why I brought you here to help her because you deliver babies everyday."
"I don't have any of my equipment with me. She needs to seek medical attention from professionals who do have the right equipment." I groaned. "Come on and help me get her up."
"Okay."
