"Earth to Jade, are you okay?" Rina asked as I shook my head, trying to get out of my deep thoughts and focus on her. "Sorry, what?"
"That's like, the second time you zoned out. Is there something bothering you?" Rina asked as she took off her sports bra, full on exposing me to her boobs, which obviously wasn't the first time that I had seen Rina's boobs, as I recall. We just had gym and now we were in the girls' locker room, changing back into our regular clothes to go onto seventh period.
"No, I'm fine." I said, sitting down, putting on my sneakers and tying them. Rina nodded her head and continued to get dressed. "Hey, did you hear that we might be getting our Chemistry test back on Monday?"
"Yeah, I also heard that half of the class bombed it." I said, putting on my other shoe.
"Honestly, I hope I, at least, got a C." I shook my head, tying my sneakers. "Honey, at this point, it's in God's hands. You know, it is what it is." I said.
"I am dying to have that kind of mentality. You are a goddess." Rina said, praising me.
Everyone was all ready to leave the locker room, when our coach stopped us. "Attention, juniors. Please note that the Junior Blood Drive is next week, so make sure your parents sign the sheet that was handed out to you guys in homeroom. Also, make sure that you eat something before you come to school and last but not least, if you know you or your friend doesn't like needles, please don't participate. The last thing we need is someone passing out." Everyone laughed. "Okay? Have a good weekend, ladies, and I will see you next week."
When I was finished tying my shoes, I grabbed my gym bag and waited for Rina's slow ass as I was standing by the door, just holding it for other girls who mistakenly thought that I was just being nice.
"Marina, if you don't hurry up, I'm going to kick your ass. Did you forget we have a Spanish test next period?" I asked. Rina rolled her eyes and ran up to me as we walked out of the locker room and down the hallway. Rina went to her locker and I went to mine. I shoved my gym bag into my locker and took out my backpack, throwing it on my back and lifting my hair up, so that the straps wouldn't pull on my hair. Rina had already put her gym bag into her locker, when she came up to my locker with her backpack. I locked it and walked alongside her to our Spanish class.
"So, did you hear the big news?" Rina asked, smiling like a dummy. "What news? And for God's sake, will you please stop smiling like Harry Styles just proposed to you." I said, taking out a piece of gum in the pocket of my jeans. I unwrapped the gum, put it in my mouth, and held onto the wrapper. "Pen, " I said and Rina reached into the side of her backpack, and gave one to me. "Here. So, anyway, apparently, I heard that one of your favorite singers is going to be here, giving a speech about how us, high school kids, shouldn't be doing drugs and alcohol, and what not."
"Oh, lovely." I said sarcastically, knowing that the school probably put some famous celebrity sponsor, whose probably stuck up and whose only encounter with drugs was coke and, now they want to give a speech on how their life changed. Well, screw that, I'm not listening because I already know.
Rina touched my arm, trying to comfort me because she knew, well, the whole school knew I went to rehab. "Hey, I know this is a tough subject for you but I'll be there with you, the entire time and if anyone says anything, I'll show 'em hammer time." I laughed, shaking my head. "Literally, I have a hammer in my locker, so that way, if anyone talks shit, I'm prepared. You got to stay prepared, chica."
"Yeah, yeah." I said as I wrote my last vocab word on the piece of wrapper, so that I could cheat on the Spanish test. "I'll be fine, but at least, Billie Eilish is gonna be here, although I don't really remember her having a drug problem. Do you?" I asked, walking into the classroom and going to my seat to sit down.
