Part 2

"Mother? Father? Am I a Demon?" I asked, fully expecting them to reject the idea and assure me that I was human.

But, I was wrong.

They stared at me. They didn't say anything until Father stood up and came towards me.

"Aileen. I want you to never speak of Demons ever again. It's better off being forgotten," he said, patting my head and smiling.

I didn't smile at his touch this time. I looked up at him with tears in my eyes.

"I'm not human? What am I then? You should know, shouldn't you, Father?" I smiled sadly and stood up.

"On second thought, you probably aren't even my parents," I said as my tears finally spilled out, and I burst through the front door, running away.

"Aileen! Come back here!" Mother shouted in the distance, but I ignored her.

As I ran through the city, all of the lights suddenly shut off.

I reached the plaza where I met the strange kid.

It was only 9:00 pm, but there he was. Sitting there calmly, smiling at me as if he knew I would come back here.

There was no one around us yet again. We were alone yet again.

"Welcome back. I've been waiting for you," he said as he pats the seat next to him.

Cautiously, I walked over and stared down at him.

"Not going to sit down? After all that running, I assumed you would be tired. I guess not," he sighed.

I became tense.

"How do you know I was running?" I asked.

"I was watching you," he replied casually.

"Then you must've seen what happened with my family?"

He stood up and leaned in towards my ear.

"Yes, I saw everything. From you entering your house to you running here. I've taken a liking to you, Aileen," he whispered in my ear, sending chills down my spine.

"Don't come so close to me," I said as I pushed him back.

"Careful. Wouldn't want to get in trouble with the royals, would you?" He smiled and came towards me once again, taking my hand.

"Royals? Don't tell me you're a noble of some sort?" I scoffed.

"No. I'm just the proud son of Artelle's king," he said and winked.

"You're the prince of this land?!" I exclaimed to which he shushed me with his finger.

"Can't have Father finding out I'm in the city again," he chuckled.

I shouldn't offend this person at all unless I want my head cut off in a public execution...

"Don't worry, Aileen. I like you, so I wouldn't do that so carelessly."

"You like me romantically or you've just taken an interest in me?" I asked.

"I don't know. I just know that you draw me to you," he chuckled.

"You better not take me as a concubine," I muttered.

"Soon, when we're old enough, I'll take you as my wife," he replied and gripped onto my hand even tighter.

He turned towards me and held onto both of my hands.

"My name is Artemis. It's a pleasure to meet you," he said.

"It's a... pleasure to meet you too," I whispered, looking away.

I turned away from him and began walking again when a question suddenly came to mind.

"Hey, Artemis? Why would you choose me?" I asked.

"Simple. There's only 1 White Demon in the world, which is me. Then, there's also only 1 Shadow Demon in the world, which I'm assuming is you," he explained.

"Why are there only 1 of each?"

"That, I don't know. It's just something my father told me."

I didn't say anything else and just stared up at the sky as we walked, hand in hand.

We soon reached the castle of Artelle where Artemis explained to his guards and family that I was one of them. A Demon.

They accepted me and even threw a party to welcome me here as this is where I would be staying.

Of course, I missed my parents. Like any child, I was devastated to leave them, but I found a new home.

I learned to trust Artemis as he meant no harm to me. He picked flowers every morning and gave them to me as soon as I woke up.

I learned about his likes and dislikes, his hobbies, and his personality.

He taught me how to control my magic and even taught me how to use it.

I soon fell in love with him, and I suspected he liked me too.

I asked him if he liked me romantically, and he said yes.

I spent the last of my childhood with him, and we watched each other grow into adults.

Of course, our looks didn't change as our kind was supposed to last for hundreds of years until a new pair is born. We still looked like teenagers to everyone around us.

A few years later, his father arranged for us to be married in a few months after reaching adulthood.

At this point, I thought I was the luckiest girl in the world. To be gifted with such an amazing life.

I was wrong. So very wrong.
