Part 4

Blinking my eyes open, I jolted awake, finding that my arms and legs were tied to a chair.

I looked around, frantically trying to figure out where I was and what had happened.

The last thing I remember was Artemis leaving to go to his father's room, but what happened next?

As I tried to think harder, I felt a sharp pain in my arm.

I looked over at the source of the pain and saw a small puncture wound in my arm.

The last thing I remember wasn't Artemis leaving.

It was getting kidnapped by someone unknown.

Maybe I can use magic to get out of here.

Noticing that the ropes on my legs were glowing, I lost almost all of my hope.

The ropes were magic sealing which meant I couldn't use magic.

This person must be a Demon as well, otherwise, they wouldn't have this type of magic sealing rope.

I looked at my surroundings and noticed I was in a dark basement.

Suddenly, I heard the door open with a slow creak.

"Ah, you're awake," the girl said as she came in with a glass of water.

A girl?

She had long black hair with bangs on the front of her face just cut neatly enough to stay out of her eyes. The girl also had a red ribbon in her hair tied neatly into a bow.

Her eyes were dark brown, and she wore a short black kimono that had red floral patterns on it.

(Kimono: a robe with wide sleeves and tied with a sash, originally worn as a formal garment in Japan and now also used elsewhere as a robe.)

I had to admit, she looked really cute.

Then, another girl came in.

She looked the same as the first girl except with golden blonde hair. She also had a ribbon in her hair that was the color blue this time.

Her eyes were light blue, and she also wore a kimono, except hers, was white with blue floral patterns.

They were opposites, but they seemed to go together so well.

"Mari, what are you doing down here? It was my turn to check up on her," the first girl said.

The girl named, 'Mari', sighed and pouted.

"Come on, Nari. What if she somehow breaks out and tries to kill us?" Mari said.

Mari and Nari, huh?

Even their names sound alike.

"She won't. The ropes are supposed to be magic sealing, and even if she breaks out, we're Elites, we could take her on," Nari replied, walking towards me.

"If you say so," Mari mumbled.

She walked towards me with the glass of water and held it up towards my lips.

"Am I supposed to drink that, knowing you could've drugged it?" I asked, pulling away from her.

"It's clean water, just drink. You're dehydrated," she demanded.

I decided not to argue anymore and just did as she said.

"Do you think he's coming?" Mari asked Nari.

"Of course he is. This is his beloved fiancée."

My head perked up.

They're talking about Artemis, aren't they?

"Forgive us, Aileen. We've dragged you into this because we don't know what Artemis holds dear to him. Don't take this personally," Mari said and smiled.

"What do you want with him?" I asked.

"Simple. We want him to hand the throne over to us in exchange for your life," Nari answered.

"There's no way he'd agree to that," I retorted.

"Let's see because he seems to love you more than you think," Mari chuckled.

Although I wanted him to give up on me and choose the throne, I couldn't help but hope that he would choose me too.

"Ah, he's here," Nari suddenly said.

"Mari, watch over her," she commanded.

Mari smiled at me.

"Don't worry. If Artemis doesn't pick you, we're not going to kill you. We're going to send you somewhere far away," Mari assured me.

I had a feeling that this girl named Mari was a genuinely nice person if you got to know her.

A few moments later, Nari walked back in with Artemis.

His face showed an expression I had never seen before.

It looked sad but happy at the same time.

Why?

"What's your choice, Prince Artemis? Her life or your throne?" Nari questioned.

"No, I have a better option," he answered.

"How about I take you two as part of my royal army? You'll be getting the luxury of a noble, but the treatment of royals. How about it?" he suggested, looking over at me with a smirk.

Just then, I felt my heart shatter into pieces.

He can't possibly be serious, right?

"That sounds nice. It's good to know you still have some common sense in you, but what about your dear fiancée?" Nari chuckled.

"That woman means nothing to me. Do whatever you want with her. Torture her, kill her. I don't care."

Why would he say something like that?

Why?

I felt tears running down my cheeks, and Artemis turned away.

"Come. I'll take you back to the castle as soon as you're done with her," he said, walking away.

They nodded and turned towards me.

Nari softened her gaze at me, and Mari came towards me, untying me.

She held me in her arms and pat my head.

"It's alright. You can cry as much as you want now," she whispered.

I sobbed in her arms as she comforted me, holding me tight.

"Now, I feel really bad for breaking you two apart," Nari softly said.

"It's okay. As he said, he never loved me anyway," I replied quietly.

"We need to get going, Mari. Aileen, I hope you find happiness," she told me before teleporting me to somewhere unknown.

I landed in a dark forest, the small branches that I landed on scratched up my skin.

Quickly standing up, I wiped my tears, but they kept coming.

Finally getting myself together, I noticed 4 small children looking at me.

One had blue hair, another had red hair, the third child had white hair, and the last child had blonde hair.

"Hello, nice to meet you, Master," the white-haired boy said.

"M-Master?" I asked, confused.

"We are your spirits, Master Aileen. Please accept us," the blue-haired girl pleaded.

Artemis had mentioned to me that the Shadow Demon had 4 spirits that protected it. The spirits of water, fire, wind, and electricity.

Could these children be those very spirits he talked about?
