"I'm sure you're aware as to why I called you to my office."

I looked away from the pictures of Elizabeth, Peggy, and Angelica to Headmaster Schuyler. (I knew they had the same last names but I didn't know he was their father.) (Now, thinking about it, it makes sense how all 3 of them got into the same school)

"Actually, I don't, sir."

I was practically shaking.

I never got in trouble.

Never.

I knew it couldn't be something like "oh, good job, James! You get a gold star!" I knew I was in trouble because he was stern; he meant business.

"Oh, but it was only, what— eight, nine hours ago?"

It was 10 a.m.

Oh.

How could I have forgotten?

I was such a massive idiot.

I went to sleep, forgot about everything, woke up, ate goldfish, had a coffee, then received a vague email from the office staff.

"Oh," was all I said.

"Oh?"

"Uh... I'm terribly sorry. For..." It was kind of a blur. Everything happened so fast. It had escalated so fast. "Breaking into the library... and uh... the fight."

"But that wasn't your fault, right?" He sat on the edge of his desk.

What game was he playing?

"I did... voluntary go into the library... I knew I shouldn't of been. I didn't know Alexander was going to jump at Samuel, sir."

"Hmm..."

I waited.

"I have all the footage. Technically speaking, you were not at fault for anything. It's on your three other classmates. They should receive punishment, right?"

I despised those open-ended questions.

"...do you have audio?" I had to know. I had to know how much people knew.

"No. Should I know? I don't care how the fight started... the lawyers have that covered."

"Lawyers?"

"Alexander Hamilton essentially assaulted another student. That is against school policy and the law. Seabury has decided to pursue a case against him."

Oh, shit.

"Will there be a trail?"

"That's unclear."

"Sir, why did you bring me here?"

"Alexander and Thomas both told me to talk to you." He tapped his foot.

"You talked to them?"

"Yes. Surprised you didn't run into Thomas on your way into here. He just left."

I suppose it was for the better that I didn't bump into him.

I also hadn't seen any sign of Samuel.

"Why do you think they wanted me to talk to you?"

"I don't know, sir." I said it calmly but on the inside, I was fucking dying.

"They want you to defend their actions. They both think they're close enough friends with you that you will paint them in a good light. Now, I like Alexander, he's dating my daughter... I'm not so sure about the Thomas kid. Tell me about him."
