Dolley kept her arms around me. Even when I tried to wiggle out of her grasp.

She had climbed into the bed with me. She asked me why I was crying, but I didn't even know I was crying.

When I didn't answer, she didn't say anything else.

I woke up to the light being turned on.

It was Dolley's father, John Payne.

I squinted out the light.

"Oh! Sorry," he said in that quiet, deep voice. "Just making sure you two were okay. You can go back to sleep."

"What time is it?" I whispered, not wanting to wake up Dolley.

"Almost ten in the morning. I'm surprised the girls haven't woke you up yet. Don't mind me, I'm going back downstairs." He shut off the light, then closed the door gently.

I was still wearing my street clothes. Dolley had changed into a Paramore shirt and alethic shorts—the least expensive thing I'd ever seen her wear.

I leaned my head back on the pillow, closing my eyes, not daring to think about the phone call.

Dolley stirred beside me.

"Good morning..." I whispered.

"Hey," she mumbled groggily, sitting up and rubbing her eyes. "Are you okay?"

"Mmmhmm." I nodded.

"Want to talk about it?"

"Not really."

"That's okay." She placed her dainty hand on my forearm, it was cold, probably because we both fell asleep above the covers. "Just know that I'm here for you. You can talk to me about anything."

I gave her a slow nod.

"What time is it anyway?"

"Ten o'clock."

"Crap! Really?!" She flew out of the bed. "Get ready and fast!"

"Are we going somewhere?"

"Yes!"

"Where?"

"It's a surprise!" She called from the hallway.

Huh.

I went into the adjoined bathroom and took a quick hot shower.

After, I put on a Hairspray shirt, which Maria gave me because she "didn't like the way it felt on her boobs." I told her to give it to her girlfriend, she told me that I needed to look like a "man of culture." I pulled on ripped black jeans that my mom probably bought me in the tenth grade. Then, to pull it all together, I wore Thomas' black zip-up hoodie. It was probably the only hoodie he had that wasn't magenta.

There was a knock at the door.

"Who is it?"

"Dolley. Can I come in, slowpoke?"

"Yep."

"Since when do you like musicals?" She asked, pointed at my shirt.

"I don't. I've only seen the Rent movie... and Shrek the musical, that's it."

"More than you had seen a year ago."

A lot can change in a year. And not just my interest in musicals. (btw, totally Maria's doing)

"You ready?"

"Yeah. Just let me get my phone-- damn. It's dead."

"You can charge it in the car, c'mon let's go already!"
