Alexander was a smoking a cigarette when we got to his apartment. All 3 of the boys living there were total train wrecks. Lafayette looked as if he hadn't showered in 5 years and Hercules was passed out on the couch.
When none of them would talk to Thomas, he started cleaning up. I started on the dishes.
"Why the fuck are you here Jefferson?" Alexander said after awhile.
"I've decided I'm going to adopt your sorry ass. And Laf, and Herc's. I am now your legal mother."
"Well that's fucking stupid. How can you still be a sarcastic bitch when John is dead?"
Thomas went quiet. He hesitated before answering, "I'm just trying to help."
"Yeah whatever, why'd you need to bring your little bitch everywhere you go?" He was mediocrely pissed off.
I suddenly became very interested in the suds on the plate I had in my hand.
"He has name, ya know. And he's the one who suggested that we come over and see how you're doing." Thomas stared down Alexander.
"Well tell Madison that I think he's a bigger asshole than you. How'd you think I'd be doing? My boyfriend just fucking died last night and you think I'm going to be cracking fucking jokes?"
"Alex-"
"Just Stop, Jefferson. I don't want your bitch ass sympathy." He rolled his eyes. "Please leave."
I glanced over at Thomas to see his reaction.
"Fine. But please call if you need anything."
I turned off the running water and wiped my hands on my pants.
"Fine," Alexander said in a harsh tone.
Thomas opened the door, and I followed. Alexander was staring at me.
"Uh... goodbye."
He flipped me off.
I closed the door behind me.
"Well he's peachy," Thomas grumbled.
"Yeah, you could say that. But I get it."
"Let's just hope he doesn't pull a Thomas. I know for sure that I'm not doing a Thomas again."
"What do you mean 'a Thomas'?" I used air quotes.
"Oh last year, well, I was going through a rough spot and I didn't do so well with it." He shrugged his shoulders. "I'm not gonna let that happen again."
I nodded. "That sounds like a good decision."
"Really?" I saw him smile the slightest. "Thanks."

I had about an hour alone when Maria took Thomas to get Icecream. Apparently every Sunday they were both on campus they tried a new sweet's place.
I was actually surprised at how well Thomas was taking it all. I mean if I was in his spot, I know for sure, I wouldn't be trying to take care of other people. Maybe a week after, but not the day after. I couldn't comprehend how he was dealing with it.
