I Thought the Holidays Were Supposed to be Nice

Didn't you hear your wicked words every day
And you used to be so sweet I heard you say
That my love was an addiction
When we cling, our love is strong
When you go, you're gone forever
You string along, you string along

Thomas sped down the highway. We were only 30 minutes away. I was relieved to be away from my own family and hiding everything with Thomas. It's so much work to be gay.

Christmas at my house wasn't too bad, besides for my insufferable aunts, but oh, well.

5 minutes.

Another 80's song.

The drive had been quiet and short.

"One more turn then we'll be there," Thomas said.

"Okay."

There it was; a small log cabin surrounded by trees with a lake off in the back.

"Do you like it?"

I nodded, a smile rising. "It's cute."

Thomas beamed.

We stumbled out of the minivan, grabbed our bags, and headed inside. It was extremely homey; it smelt of cinnamon, had dim lighting, and had furniture that looked comfy.

"So, uh, there are multiple rooms, but I was thinking-"

"Of course we can share." I knew what he was going to ask.

"Fantastic." Thomas lugged mine and his bags into what was the master bedroom.

I sat down in a red, poofy chair. It practically ate me whole when I sat down.

"I was thinking after we eat, or maybe even tomorrow, we could go ice skating on the lake. It's completely frozen over this time of the year," Thomas said as he came back into the main room. He laughed when he saw me, consumed by the chair.

"Oh, yeah that sounds wonderful."

Thomas sat himself in the chair opposite of mine. "For dinner; I can make pasta, tacos, or we can order pizza."

"I'm good with anything."

"So am I, which is why you should decide."

I shook my head. "I really don't mind."

Thomas rolled his eyes. "If you don't decide then I'll just order pizza."

"Sounds good to me."

He sighed as he took out his phone. "Okay, what kind?"

The pizza arrived in 20 minutes and then we sat on the couch together, eating pizza, and watching Good Omens.

It had been a while after we finished the pizza when I got up to go to the bathroom. When I got back, Thomas was sitting in a slightly different spot then he had been when I left, and there was a small stack of presents under the tv.

I looked at Thomas, then at the presents, then back to Thomas.

He raised an eyebrow. "What?"
