I woke up to Samuel slamming the door.

"Woah, Madison you brought home someone. Damn."

"Hmph." Thomas curled his body closer together.

My arm was under him so I slowly pulled it out. "Please be quiet, Samuel, it was a bad night. He's trying to sleep."

I got up to get a granola bar. Samuel was watching me, suspiciously.

"What happened last night...?" He asked as he slung his bag over his shoulder.

"Oh... well Thomas' roommate, John, was in car crashed and he passed away last night."

"He died?"

I nodded.

"Jesus Christ, that's gonna be bad for George." He ran his hands through his hair.

"Wait, what?"

"George, I mean King hit Lee's car. He's fine besides the fact it was his fault he hit Lee's car, he was texting me when it happened." He shrugged his shoulders as if what he just said hardly mattered.

"What the fuck?" Was I all I could manage to say.

"Yup." He then walked past me, grabbed the granola bar out of my hand, and left.

I glanced over at the sleeping Thomas. At least I hope he was sleeping and hadn't heard all that.  He was wrecked enough as it was.  I practically had to drag him to my dorm and lay him down so he would sleep. If I didn't know any better I would've thought he was drunk last night.

Then again maybe he was. Drunk on sadness.

It was 11 on a Sunday. Thomas' roommate, and one of his closest friends, was dead. I could hardly believe my life at the moment. I had a cute boy in my bed, who actually liked me. That was definitely not how I thought I would be spending my first year in college. I thought for sure the only thing I would ever have time for was school.

I thought I wouldn't have already broke up with someone, and moved on within like a day. I had more friends then I've ever had the rest of my life.

I liked my life at the moment.

I just hoped that this didn't tear Thomas apart.

I was even thinking of Alexander, how he must be dealing with this. When Thomas woke up I'd suggest we go over to check on him.

A phone vibrated from the other side of the room,  interrupting my thoughts.

It was on the night stand, Thomas' phone. The phone contact was "Bitch" and there was a picture of Maria giving the camera a middle finger.

I quickly answered it and held it up to my ear.

"Hello? Thomas?"

"Uh, no this is James."

"Oh my god, I heard what happened... how... how is he doing?"

"Well, he's been asleep for 10 hours... I honestly don't know."

"How are you doing?"

"Okay I guess. I mean I didn't really know John, but I was there when he died."

"Yeah I didn't really know him, but I saw him a lot, I mean he was Thomas' roomie." She took a deep breath. "I just hope he doesn't do what he did last time."

"What'd you mean last time?"

"Oh... well last year his brother died, and he completely lost the will to live for a whole month. Not really suicidal, but he didn't go to class, and hardly ate anything. It was bad, I wasn't entirely as close to him as I am now, but it was really obvious how bad he was doing."

"Oh wow."

"Yeah. Just tell Thomas to call me when he can, okay?"

"Yeah okay."

"Thank you. Take care of yourself James, bye." She hung up.

I put Thomas' phone back on the nightstand. I decided to go get us lunch from the cafeteria.

I swiped up my sweatshirt from the ground, why it was there, I have no idea, and pulled it over my head.

There wasn't another soul in the hallways, just the way my introverted self liked it.

There was only 1 person working there. And that person was an Aaron Burr.

"Howdy, James." He greeted me.

"Hi? Since when do you work here, and since when do you say 'howdy'?"

"Like last week. I want to ask Theodosia out but I need some money before I do that. So this-" he held his arms out and gestured to the cash register.

I nodded. "Okay, so I'll buy 2 bowls of Mac n cheese and 2 brownies."

"Alright $11.56."

I handed him a $10 bill and a $5 bill and he gave me the change then scooped out two bowls of Mac and cheese.

"Thank you, Aaron."

"It's literally my job but okay."

I gave him a smile before leaving.

I opened the door to the dorm and found Thomas pacing the room, typing furiously on his phone.

He looked up as I walked in. "Hey I was just gonna text you."

"Well I brought lunch; Mac and cheese." I set the bowls down on the coffee table.

"My favorite." He scooped one up. "Where are the forks?"

"Oh I'll grab you one."

We sat in silence and ate Mac and cheese. I filled the silence by contemplating what was in store for my sorry ass next. More death? More breakups? More bad dates?

Honestly I had no idea.

// so that was kind of a filler chapter and me announcing the fact that John died. I didn't feel like writing a death scene so... yup.
If this didn't make any sense at all, I'm sorry. I wrote this while I had migraine🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️ thanks for reading :)//
