Chapter 13 - Why?

Chloe's P.O.V
"W-What are you doing here?...." I asked shocked
"I came to see you" he smiled awkwardly
"Just me?" I asked
"And Daniel.... and your mother of course" he nodded his head
"W-why?" I blinked
"Because I wanted to see ye, it felt like it was the right time" he explained while I just stood there completely shocked
"I- I don't know what to.... say" I shake my head
"Maybe you could say Hi" he laughed lightly
"Hi...Dad" I managed to choke out
"Well, aren't you gonna invite me in?" He looked into the house
"I don't know if that's such a good idea I mean mums not e-" I was cut off by Jay
"Is everything ok out here?" He walked out looking between me and the man he's never seen before
"Um yeah" I coughed "yeah everything's ok" I smiled
"Who's this" my dad asked
"This is Jay, my boyfriend" I looked down
"Hi, I-I'm James, Chloe's father" my dad held his hand out
"Oh, its nice to meet you" Jay shook his hand and looked at me
"Look it was nice of you to stop by but I think you should contact mum before you get to see Danny and before you get to come into this house okay? Goodbye" I blurted our before shutting the door leaning my back against it with my eyes closed
"Are you okay?" Jay asked cautiously placing his hand on my shoulder
"I don't know" I shook my head with tears in my eyes
"Come here" he sighed pulling me into a hug
"Hey Chloe who was at th-" Daniel said running up to us "what's wrong?" He asked concerned
"Oh nothing" I sniffed "why don't you go in and watch some tv" I smiled at him
"Okay!" He smiled before running off.

An hour later my mum came rushing through to door and once she seen me she ran to give me the worlds biggest hug
"Oh my god I'm so sorry i wasn't here" she sighed
"I'm guessing he called you?" I asked
"Worse, he called into my work" she pulled away from the hug and sat at the table
"What does he want?" I asked sitting down next to Jay and my mum
"To be involved with you and Daniel, he wants to have dinner tonight, here" she explained
"What did you say?" I asked
"I said yes, I didn't know what else to say if I'm being honest" she shook her head
"Well then I guess we're having dinner with him...." I sighed and leaned on Jay.

A while after that Jay left to meet up with Barry and to give me some privacy to wrap my head around my dads sudden return while I got ready for dinner. I had a shower and put on some makeup and picked out a really nice outfit, I don't know why I'm trying so hard for the man that abandoned me and my family 8 years ago but I am maybe it will make him realise he should have never have left.
It was 8 o'clock and I was sitting at the kitchen table watching my mum pace the kitchen nervously when there was a knock at the door, we both looked at each other nervously before she went to answer the door. Daniel came running into me and stood behind me, we explained how our dad was back and he's really nervous about meeting him for the first time. Our mum walked through the door with our father close behind, he smiled awkwardly at me "Hello Chloe, you look lovely"
"Thank you" I smiled a tight smile
"And that big boy behind you must be Daniel" he lowered himself down to Danny's level and Daniel slowly creeped forward before lunging into hug our dad, I wish I had been that excited to see him....
We were halfway through dinner and dad was talking about how much he missed us and how he would like another chance and I lost it,
"You missed us?! You want another chance?!" I laughed "it's been ten years! TEN! And you're only missing us now?! You weren't missing us when I went to see you a year ago were you?!" I yelled
"Well it was a shock seeing you a-and I didn't feel ready?" He explained
"Danny go to your room" my mum told Daniel
"Why?" He asked
"Daniel go!" My mum said stern and Daniel ran off
"Chloe, calm down" My mum placed her hand on mine
"No! Why should I calm down?! You weren't ready?! If you weren't ready then how could you be ready now?! You turned me away! You didn't care! You're our father you should have been ready no matter what!" I ranted
"Look, I have made mistakes and you coming to see me was such a shock" he tried to reason
"No! You left without a second thought and you turned me away like I meant nothing to you! Then you come here a year later and act like none of that happened!" I shook my head tears starting to poor down my face
"I'm sorry but I'm here to make all of this up to you!" He stood up to come closer to me
"Don't you think it's a little late for that?!" I asked mad "You help mum out and you be there for Danny but when it comes to me and our 'father daughter relationship' it's nonexistent" I explained standing up to move away from him
"Just give me a chance" he smiled
"I tried to a year ago" I looked down "I can't be here anymore" I shook my head running out of the house.

I walked around for what felt like forever, thinking and crying, not knowing what to do. I came around a corner and a few buildings down I saw Jay and I felt relief, I started to walk towards him when I seen a girl put her arms around him,
"Maybe we could go back to my place" she smirked at him
"I don't think my girlfriend would be too happy about that" he shook his head
"We don't have to tell her, besides someone like you shouldn't have a girlfriend, didn't you prefer your single life?" She winked at him running her hand up and down his arm
"Single life was great b-" he began to say but I cut him off shocked and upset
"Jay?" I said confused
"Chloe!" His eyes went wide
"I can't believe this" I shook my head turning around to walk away quickly but he followed me
"Chloe wait please" he begged grabbing onto my arm
"What?" I asked sniffing looking at the ground
"Look at me" he lifted my face up
"Look you don't have to say anything, I get it you prefer single life it's just who you are" I shook my head
"No, I don't prefer it" he laughed grabbing my hand
"You said single life was great Jay, I heard you" I rolled my eyes
"Yeah and if you had let me finish you would have heard me say that single life was great but life with my girlfriend is so much better because I have someone who makes me truly happy, more than all those girls from my single life ever could have" he smiled
"You're just saying that, Jay if you want to leave just leave" I said taking my hand from his and turning to walk away
"Hey!" He stopped me "I am never leaving you, do you hear me" He holds my face in his hands
"Why?" I looked into his eyes
"Because I" he paused "because I love you" he smiled
"What?" I crack a small smile
"I love you Chloe" he smiled even bigger
"I love you too" I smiled leaning up to kiss him.

After that Jay walked me home and on the way home he asked what happened at dinner and why I was convinced he wanted to leave me and I explained how I expect all the guys in my life to leave eventually because of the way my dad did,
"If my own father left, why wouldn't any other guy" I finished
"That's not right Chloe" he sighed
"It might not be right but it's what I believe" I shrugged
"Well I'm just gonna have to change your beliefs. I am going to be around for the rest of your life and we're going to have an amazing life together with kids and I'm never going to leave them either" he smiled.
When I got home I just went straight into bed and thought about jay to keep my mind off of what happened at dinner and I kept hearing him say those three words over and over in my mind and I couldn't believe I had said them back, but I really did mean them, I really do love him.
