Lilly’s POV
“Ate, I’m leaving!” I called out as I walked out the front door. I was going to the park to draw; I really needed to start getting myself used to my current surroundings. I needed to start building myself here.
Luckily, there was a park that was about a five minute walk from the apartment. Since my sister and I didn’t have a car here yet, I had to carry a large sketch pad and drawings set in a bag, and carry a stand with me. Fortunately, it wasn’t that heavy.
I found an empty bench that overlooked a playground. I took a seat and started to set up, which didn’t take that long. Before I knew it, I had already grabbed a HB pencil and started outlining.
The park itself wasn’t that big; it had a large red slide and a small bridge that led to some monkey bars. There was also a swing set, which was occupied by a toddler who was being pushed by his mother.
Around the playground was some bark, which made the park seem bigger than it was.
I continued to outline, taking extra care in sketching the slide. It spiraled down, so I made sure to make small marks where I would shade it in.
“Hi,” a voice said to me from my left. Turning around, I saw Caspar behind me in a grey hoodie and black joggers.
“Hey. How’d you know I was here?”
“I didn’t. I just come here sometimes,” he replied, taking a seat next to me.
“Do you drive here?” I asked, continuing to sketch.
“No, I walk. It’s not that long a walk; especially on days like this,” he said.
I looked around me. It wasn’t sunny; actually, it looked just like any other typical day in London.
“What do you mean?” I asked him, setting down my pencil momentarily. “It looks just like any other day.”
Caspar laughed lightly. “It does, but I mean, it’s just one of those days, I guess.”
“Okay. Anyways, are you okay now?” I asked him, referring to last night.
“Yeah I’m okay. Like I said, it was probably just stress.”
“I’m glad,” I smiled at him. I looked back at my sketchbook, the outline almost finished. I picked up my pencil again and started sketching.
“That reminds me, do you remember the day we were skyping and you told me that you just finished painting?” Caspar asked me.
Once again, I set my pencil down and looked at him. “Yeah?”
“When can I see it?”
I sighed, but I could feel my heart beat starting to race. “Soon Caspar. I’m not sure I’m ready to show you yet, to show anyone. I don’t know if it’s what I want it to be just yet,” I explained to him.
“I understand,” he responded. We both sat there in silence. I continued to work on my sketch, but now I was distracted. At this moment, all I wanted to do was turn to a new page and start drawing him.
For months she had to rely on her memory when she drew him. Each time she seemed to get closer to perfecting him, but there was always something that seemed to be missing.
“Caspar?”
“Yeah?” he turned to me.
“I have an odd request,” I said, almost inaudibly.
“What is it?”
“Would you be a model for me? Like, let me draw you?” I said without holding it back. I held my breath, anticipating his answer.
“I-I mean, I guess. If that’s what you want.” He responded, his hair flopping wildly in the wind as it picked up.
“Wait, really?”
“Yeah. Why? Did you think I would say no?”
“I didn’t know what you would say,” I admitted.
“Well, I don’t think it’s a bad idea, so it’s okay.”
I smiled at him, and reached over, wrapping my arms around him excitedly. “Thank you so much!” I said lowly. He wrapped his arms around me, and for a while we stayed let that, the wind blowing wildly around us. It wasn’t until my stand tipped over that we pulled apart.
“I got it,” Caspar said, picking up my sketch pad and stand, propping it back up.
“Thanks, but I don’t think the wind will let up, so I’m going to head back to the apartment. Do you wanna maybe come with?” I asked, closing my sketchpad and putting my pencils back into their case.
Caspar pulled out his phone and checked the time, I think. “Yeah, I’d love to.” He smiled at me.
Caspar grabbed my stand and we started to walk back towards the apartment.
“Oh, hold up. I’m going to go use the toilet,” Caspar said, setting down my stand and running off to the park’s bathroom.
I held the stand and my bag, waiting. Suddenly, a man walked up to me.
“Hello,” he said. He was tall and handsome. He had dark curly hair and eyes and was wearing a black leather jacket.
“H-hello,” I stumbled. I didn’t know who this man was, and the fact that he was absolutely good looking made me feel even more nervous.
“My name is Kyle.” He reached out a hand and I took it, shaking it lightly. “I noticed that you were drawing, and I was wondering if you also painted?”
“Oh, uhh, yeah I do. Why?” I asked.
“Well, I was looking for a local artist to come paint a portrait of me and my girlfriend so I can give it to her as a surprise birthday present. Do you think you would be up to that?” he shrugged, smiling.
I was honestly too shocked to speak for a few seconds, but I quickly recollected myself and responded. “I’d love too.”
“That’s great! Can I get your number so I can text or call you the details?” He pulled out his phone.
“Sure,” I responded, quickly telling him my phone number.
“Thanks. I’ll get in touch,” he shook my hand again before jogging off.
Instantly, Caspar came back.
“Who was that?”
“A guy named Kyle. I just got hired for my first official art project here!” I squealed.
“Oh, wow! That’s great Lilly! I’m so happy for you!” Caspar opened his arms and I hugged him tightly before pulling back.
“Okay, come on, let’s go home and celebrate,” I said, and we both started to short walk back to the apartment.
I would just like to say that there will be some triggering content in future chapters. Thanks x
