Lilly’s POV

I woke up in my room, the morning light slowly filling up my room. My heart dropped. Was it all a dream? I thought.

I looked over at my phone, which was on the bed stand next to me. I looked at the time and saw that it was almost six thirty in the morning. I felt something behind my phone, and saw there was a sticky note. It read:

Thank you for yesterday.

I’ll see you later x

I smiled and shook my head, glad that it wasn’t a dream. I realized I was still in yesterday’s attire, so I got up and changed into more comfortable clothing.

Looking in the mirror, I saw that my make was smudged all over my face, so I went into the bathroom and washed it. After I was done, I walked back into my room and decided to go back to sleep, but the apartment’s quietness seemed odd. I was about to grab a vinyl and put it on the record player when I heard voices downstairs. It sounded like Zoe.

At the same time, it sounded like she was talking to a group of people instead of just one person. And I heard Alfie’s voice too. So I decided to head downstairs, where I saw my sister was watching a video on the Tv.

Everyone was there, short of my sister. Then Joe got up.

“What is taking her so long? I’m going to get her,” he said, walking out of my sister’s room.

The others continued on talking. They were talking about what question to do next, as they looked through their phones.

Everyone continued to babble and laugh at each other’s jokes, when yelling came from down the stairs.

            “What was that?” Marcus asked.

“Sounds like some loud yelling. You think Joe and Eva are okay?” Alfie asked.

“I can go check,” Zoe said, getting up  and walking out of the room. I heard her yell something down the stairs that was louder than the other scream, so she must’ve stayed upstairs.

She walked back inside the room and told everyone that everything was okay.

I looked at my sister- the one sitting on the couch watching the video- and she seemed to be stiffly quiet. I approached her quietly, until I heard a gunshot resonate from the video.

Everyone-Zoe, Aflie, Marcus, Caspar, and Niomi- shot up suddenly, their faces worried and ran out of the room. Now the screen showed only my sister’s room, but every now and then I could hear yelling.

Finally, there was one last gunshot, followed by loud cries. They sounded as if they could shatter hearts, and I felt my heart sink.

My sister paused the video and I heard her let out a whimper.

“Ate?” I asked, walking around the couch to kneel in front of her. “Ate? What is this?”

My sister raised her head to look at me, her eyes red and puffy and it was obvious she has been crying for much longer than I thought.

“We were making a video that night, when Cassie came. They didn’t turn off the camera, so it continued to record. And it picked up the sounds,” she told me, putting her chin on her knees.
