Lilly’s POV

I heard beeps and heavy breathing next to me. Slowly, I opened my eyes and saw Caspar sleeping soundly by the side of the bed, and a beautiful Doctor standing next to the bed.

“H-hello,” I croaked, my throat dry.

“Oh, hello. Lilly, my name is Doctor Vaugns, and I’m your doctor,” she smiled.

I smiled back and looked at Caspar.

“He came inside once visiting hours opened. The others are still in the lobby. Would you like me to get them for you?”

“Oh, no. I’ll have Caspar get them later.”

She nodded and walked out the room.

I looked at Caspar and smiled. I raised a sore, bruised hand and stroked his blonde locks. They were dried up and grimy from the events of the previous night, but still, I continued to run my fingers lightly through them when Caspar woke up and looked at me.

“Lilly!” He said loudly, standing up and looked around in a panic. “Do you need anything? Should I get the doctor?”

I chuckled. “She was just here. Sit down Caspar.”

He listened and took a seat, taking my hand in his lightly, placing a small kiss on each of my knuckles.

“They said you have internal bleeding and some fractured bones,” Caspar told me.

I nodded. “I mean, I didn’t know, but it hurts more in other places, but I’m okay.”

            Caspar looked at me sadly.

            “What’s wrong?” I asked.

“I’m so sorry. I wish I had done something to fix this. Or to prevent it.”

“Cas,” I shook my head. “It was my fault. But let’s not talk about it. It happened, and I don’t want to have to think about it.”

            Caspar nodded.

“Can you get the others for me?”

Caspar obliged and got up, getting my sister, best friend, and Joe. They all walked into the room, new clothes on their body.

            “Hey,” I smiled.

“Hey,” my sister said, tears in her eyes as she walked to the side of the bed and touched my face lightly. “You look like a kindergartener’s art project of a monster.”

I laughed. Always up to Ate Eva to insult me to make me feel better. “At least I have a reason. What’s yours?”

She laughed. “Oh man, I’m so glad it’s over.”

            “Me too,” I smiled.

“And next time young lady, before you go off and get yourself kidnapped, you could leave a note or something. We were worried sick!” Alfie laughed, walking to the other side of the bed and giving me a quick kiss on the forehead.

“I’m sorry. It’s not like I wanted to be knocked unconscious and dragged into an abandoned building,. I’ll be more thoughtful next time,” I said sarcastically.

“Good, it’ll cause us less trouble,” Joe piped in.

“Shut up, Sugg,” I stuck my tongue out at him. We all laughed and the door opened, and I flinched, an instinct I developed from the past few days.

“It’s okay, it’s just me,” Zoe said, coming in with a bag with a box in it, some flowers, and balloons.

            “Sorry,” I smiled at her.

“Don’t be. I brought us some doughnuts.”

            “Thanks,” we all mumbled.

Doctor Vaugns came back into the room.

“Hi guys. Well, I was looking over Lilly’s file and she seems well enough to go home by this late afternoon. I just need to do some more quick tests, and she’ll all for the clearing.”

            Everyone sighed with relief.

“Thank you very much,” Ate Eva said.

“No problem,” and Doctor Vaugns turned and left the room.

“Well, I guess we’re going to have play doctor-patient again when we get back to the apartment. At least this time you can’t complain if I’m acting the doctor out wrong,” my sister laughed at the old memory of us as kids.

“You were a terrible doctor though. And yet, you grew up to be one anyways.”

“It’s just a title. I’m not actually a doctor Lilly.”

I rolled my eyes. “What-ever,” I laughed. Zoe opened the doughnuts and we all ate some. I got a simple glazed doughnut, not wanting to overwhelm myself. Naturally, my sister got a chocolate one with a crème filling. Alfie got a plain chocolate doughnut, Joe with a powdered one, Zoe with a strawberry and sprinkles doughnut, and Caspar with a doughnut that was green.

            “What is that?” I asked.

Caspar looked at me. “It’s a green tea doughnut. Zoe got it from this pastry shop a few blocks from here. We go there sometimes and this is a special that they only have every few months.”

“That sounds so weird,” I said.

“You think all the best things are weird. Here, taste it,” he said, letting me take a bite of his doughnut. I didn’t know what I expected, but it tasted wonderful. It tasted like a green tea Kitkat, but then a green tea kitkat does taste like green tea.

“Oh my gosh, that tastes wonderful,” I said, lifting my hand to move his closer to my face, taking another bite.

He laughed. “Here, just take it. We can go buy the rest of it on our way home later,” Caspar smiled.

I missed this. I miss seeing him smile so naturally and so happily. I’ve been deprived of happiness for far too long, and all I wanted was to drown myself in this moment. I wanted to be happy for a long time.

I wanted to be with all the people that were in this room right now. They mean the most to me, and I could never thank them enough for saving me.
