Caspar’s POV

Everybody had just left except for Eva and Lilly, but Eva was about to leave, and Joe was taking her home.

“Happy birthday again Caspar! I hope you had a really good day,” Eva said, hugging me tightly. She had an unopened beer bottle with her that she would take for the road.

“Thanks Eva. I did, thanks for coming,” I smiled.

“Hey, where’s your guys’ bottle opener? I want to open this now,” Eva said, looking around the messy flat.

“Oh, I got you,” Lilly said. She took the bottle from her older sister and popped it open with this ring she had on.

“Thanks Lilly. Hey, isn’t that Stephanie’s?”

“It was. She gave it to me as a parting gift.”

Eva nodded, and Joe placed his arm around her.

“Happy birthday again mate. You sure it’s fine with me staying at Eva’s tonight?”

I nodded. “Lilly is staying with me, so I’m glad you’re out of the house.”

Joe laughed and so did Eva, but I saw her give a warning look at her little sister. Lilly laughed beside me and wrapped her arms around my waist.

“Good night guys,” Lilly said, closing the door after they left. She turned around and faced me. “So what now? Clean or straight to bed?”

I looked around the flat. There were paper cups and napkins scattered across the table and around the couch. Empty bags of crisps and drinks littered the counter. It was a mess, and it would be smart to clean up now, but I didn’t want to.

“Let’s go to bed,” I smiled, taking her hand in mine and walking downstairs. As we were about to enter my room, she stopped me.

“Wait, let me wash my face,” she said, sliding into my bathroom and closing the door behind her.

I walked into my room and stripped to my boxers. I placed the clothes in the hamper by my cabinet. I then crawled under the sheets and started to relax my body.

The party was amazing, and I had a lot of fun. But mostly I made sure Lilly was okay. She was still limping from last month’s events, and she still wasn’t fully healed, no matter how much she said she was fine.

Lilly walked in, her makeup off and her hair tied up. Her faces still showed light remnants of bruises she had received, and when she noticed me looking, she turned away.

“I uhh, I didn’t bring anything to sleep in,” she said, grabbing her hands in front of her.

I laughed and opened the drawer next to my bed, grabbing a large oversized white t-shirt and tossing it to her.

“Thanks,” she said. She walked over to me and turned around. “Can you unzip my dress for me?”

I lifted my hands and pulled down the zipper. That’s when I realized she had already kicked off her heels, and they were there in the corner.

She turned her head around and smiled. “Don’t look.”

I rolled my eyes and got under the covers, peeking through a little hole. She was still looking at me, and she laughed. She shimmied out of her dress, and I wanted to cry. The burn mark of “A” on her lower back was there, and it’ll be there forever. It’ll always remind us of what she had been through, no matter how hard we try to forget.
