My body crashed into the unsuspecting patrat and sent it flying. The other pokemon landed with an audible thump, not unlike the way I did when I got hit by a gust. The patrat eventually stood up and faced me with an irritated expression. Growling, it started to charge to tackle me.
I head Beth's shout from behind me. "Dodge it!"
Following both my instincts and my trainer's voice, I lunged to my right. The patrat sailed past me and stopped a few feet away.
"Use tackle!"
I heeded the voice and ran towards the other pokemon. The patrat also charged and we crashed into each other. My head was throbbing from the impact, and I took a few seconds to recover.
"Finish it off! Use tackle!"
I tensed my body as I charged one last time at the patrat. My body had hit its mark once again and the other pokemon sailed into the air. This time didn't get up. It had fainted.
This time, I didn't hear the steps from behind me as Beth approached me. She put a hand onto my still throbbing head and I winced slightly.
"Good job, you listened to my orders perfectly. You better get used to it if you want to become real partners with me."
I looked up at my trainer and saw her smirking slightly at me. At that moment, her smile gave me a reason to keep battling pokemon. And battle I did for her.
