22. DO I WANNA KNOW?

Cause there's this tune I found that makes me think of you somehow and I play it on repeat, until I fall asleep.

I'm in my bed, listening to the same song play on a loop. I shuffle through my playlist but don't listen to a song for more than 30 second and I go crawling back to 'do I wanna know?' by the Arctic monkeys.

It has been two days since Dylan and Nerida left. Not gonna lie. I miss them. I get a text notification from Lee and I open it.

Still listening to do I wanna know ru?

When will u stop getting over someone u were never with?

Damn Lee That was harsh.

Well, he did reject you on the face. I'm not the one being harsh. Anyways, are you coming for the decade dance? Matt asked me to ask u. Uk he really likes u. It's time you start giving him attention to people who actually like you.

Idk man. Janet has grounded me since that day. I don't think she will make an exception for the decade dance.

Let me talk to her. She loves me.

I exhale out and keep my phone down. I'm so done with everything. All I want is pizza and a good movie to watch. I lay there in silence for some time and wait for Lee to come. I pick up my phone and look through the photos.

Do I wanna know? If this feeling flows both ways?

I wonder how the singers know exactly what we feel and what we think. Probably love in general is too cliché. Everybody goes through the same heart break, feels the same way, has the same thoughts, I mean, nothing is unique.

Just then Lee barges into the room.

" Janet allowed you to go, provided you returned before the curfew. Oh god, déjà vu."

"Yeah. On the night we went to cascadia, where it all started right? But it's all over now. You don't have to worry." I say.

" yeah right let's go. The theme for the decade dance is the '70's. Meet you at 7?"

" I don't have clothes."

" I called Bria. She's on her way with a box full of clothes." Lee says smiling.

"Ummm okay. Thanks. See you." I say.

Lee leaves the room and I'm left alone with my thoughts. I think about how it would have been convenient if Kai wouldn't have existed. But then I wouldn't have met Dylan and Nerida if it weren't for him. My mind floods with thoughts of why Dylan won't kiss me, what would happen Nerida gets married to Lee. They would make a good pair.

"Earth to Leah. Long time no see!" Bria says as she walks in the room.
I put on a fake smile and hug her.

" what's wrong? Stop smiling. You look like an idiot when you try to fake smile."She says.

"Break up." I say the first thing that comes in my mind. Lee was right. I am getting over someone I was never with.

"I know exactly what you need. A good party. And..." Bria says pulling out a pizza box.

Oh my god...

"I love you so much Bria, I can't."

" yeah I know. Also I got you some good 70's clothes from a shop and I borrowed some of the clothes from my grandma's old clothes box.
So what would you like to wear? Yellow bell  jumpsuit, pink wrap dress, blue floral dress.." Bria kept describing all the costumes she had brought.

Eventually I settled for a red oversized shirt with blue bell bottom jeans and a fancy blue belt on my hair holding my freshly curled brown hair in place. I looked more fancy than I ever had in the past.... 16 years of my life.

"How am I looking?" Bria asks as she swirls around in her paisley patterned pink dress and plays with her bell shaped long sleeves.

"You look really pretty." I say.

"Yeah I know. Come on time for some makeup." She says rubbing her palms together.

"No thanks" I say.

"You don't have a choice." Bria says pushing me onto a chair.

"Funny? I know." I say trying to hide my annoyance.

"Beautiful. You look amazing." Matt says.

"Come on Matt, stop lying. She looks crazy.Well she always looks crazy. Now she's looking batshit crazy." Lee says.

"Shut up Lee, just shut up. I was the one who did her makeup." Bria says.

"Well no wonder she looks crazy. I should have guessed." Lee says smirking.

"LIAM ANDERSON. YOU ARE DEAD." Bria says as she runs after him into the school building. We stand at the gate of the school. High school students flood around us to enter the building in their fancy, multicoloured retro outfits.

"Let's go?" Matt asks.

"Yeah let's go." I say.

We start walking towards the door when someone bumps against me.I turn around to apologise, but instead I get a vision.

One that I had for the very first time.

I stand on a high rock in the middle of a vast, dark and wild ocean.

I come back to reality and look around to find the person who pushed me.

"Are you fine Leah?"

"Yeah I'm fine. I'm fine."

Or at least I hope so.
