Hardin's POV

"He isn't home. What do you want?" I hear my mums voice echo.

Where is her voice coming from? And who is she talking to?

"Do got realize how much money your son has caused me ma'am?" I hear another voice. A mans voice.

Who the hell is that?

"Well I'm sorry but whatever Christian owes you I assure you I don't have it." My mum says.

I crawl over to the top of the stairs to see who is at the door, making sure to stay hidden. I hear a thud, followed by screams.

My mum is now fighting the man struggling to get the door to close. He's stronger than her though and the door flies open, making my mum fall backwards, barely catching her balance.

The man walks in, followed by two more men. I scoot back hiding behind the dark hallway.

My body trembles in fear. Images flash through my head of the months before when those soldiers had their way with my mum, all because my dad messed with the wrong guys at the pub.

All my nightmares were coming back. The way my mum screamed. The look on the mans face when he saw me standing there scared. That sick disgusting laugh. I couldn't watch it happen again, but I knew I couldn't do anything. I was only ten.

I get up quietly and run towards my room. I search for the phone to call the police, but it's not there. Crap the only other phone is in the kitchen. I can't go down there. I have to do something this time. I'm the man of the house.
Well kind of, my dad left us and my brother is never home so technically yeah I'm the man of the house.

I walk back into the hallway slowly, making sure no one is there. I creep down the stairs, I hear crashing and screaming getting closer and closer.

"Keep her quiet." I hear one man say. "Im going to see what the hell they have here that we can take." The man says.

"Please, don't do this. take anything you want, just please don't hurt me or my family." My mum cries.

I get to the bottom of the stairs, I check around the corner to the kitchen. It's all clear, they're in the living room right now on the opposite side of the small house.

I run into the kitchen and locate the phone. Bingo it's on the counter next to the stove. I grab it and run under the dining room table. I dial the numbers, my hands shaking. I remember the telephone number from my class a few weeks ago. We talked about how to call the police when you're in danger. What the number was. I didn't know I would be using the number in real life, but I'm glad I remarried it. See mum I learned something useful in school.

The phone continues to ring as the voices from the man start to get louder, he's coming into the kitchen.

I turn down the volume on the phone, and tuck my feet further under the table, hiding behind the table cloth. I pray he doesn't see me. The room is silent, loud crashes and bangs fill the room every few seconds followed by mumbled talking.

I try and steady my breathing, but I'm too scared. My breathing is sharp, my legs shaking. I can see the footsteps of the man pacing the room.

Ring Ring the sudden noise makes me jump. I fumble with the phone in my hand to shut it up. My hands shakier than ever. After the phone goes silent, my heart is pounding. My breathes are shaky. I put my hands over my mouth to make sure the man doesn't hear me.

God I hope he didn't hear the phone. What am I thinking, of course he heard the phone. The whole house heard the damn phone for Christ sakes.

The room is silent, the footsteps stopped right in front of the dining room table. Suddenly I am met with a face, I don't recognize the face.

The fear sets in more and I start to scream and two hands reach towards me. I scream louder

"NO. STOP LEAVE ME ALONE." I scream. "Hardin, Hardin wake up." A faint echo calls out.

"You're okay Hardin

"You're okay Hardin. It's okay I'm here. Baby I'm here." The voice is no longer an echo. The voice is soothing.

My breathing slows down and I set focus on the face in front of me. It's dark. What time is it?

My body relaxes as I realize where I am. Tessa holds me stroking my hair softly.

"It's okay baby. I'm here." She says. I hug her arm around me.

My body drenched in sweat.

"It was so real this time. It was almost like I was re living it again." I say, my voice raspy from sleep.
