Hardin's POV

I take Tessas hand, helping her out of the boat as we get up to the docks. The restaurant, an old brick building sits in front of us with steps leading up to the doors. There are people sitting on the picnic tables outside along the front porch.

"I'll be right in, I'm just going to finish tying up the boat. Hardin you mind giving me a hand?"

I look to Tessa and nod towards the restaurant. Anastasia and Tessa walk up the stairs leading to the doors with the kids.

"Grab that rope over there." Christian nods to the ropes hanging off the side of the boat.

"Well well well if it isn't Christian Grey. Haven't seen you over here in a few years." A man, standing at six feet, dark hair, in a leather jacket walks up to us. Two men behind him.

"I don't want any trouble today Trey. My family is here." Christian stands up, chest puffed out.

The man looks at me up and down, giving a grin. Toothpick between his teeth.

"Did you not hear him? Why don't you get back on your boat and piss off." I puff out my chest taking a step forward.

Trey takes a step forward towards me.

"And who the hell are you?"

"You really don't want to find out." I say through my teeth.

He takes another step closer. Christian steps in front of us and puts his hand on my chest holding me in place.

"Let's go Hardin. Anastasia and Tessa are inside. I'm not doing this today. Not here." Christian says in my ear.

I don't take my focus off Trey, my jaw clenches.

"Alright. Yeah let's get inside." I say, walking past Trey. Trey mumbling something as I pass him.

We sit down in the booth where Tessa and Anastasia are sitting. They're laughing as we walk up and stop as soon as they spot us.

"Everything okay out there babe?" Anastasia says to Christian, his face colorless.

"Yeah everything's fine." Christian looks down at the menu.

I stare at him. Who the fuck were those guys. Why was he seeing those guys a few years ago if he was ten years sober.

"Hardin, you okay?" Tessa says, I snap back to reality taking my eyes off Christian and putting my focus on Tessa.

"Yeah I'm fine. I'm just a little tired is all." I lie.

The rest of the meal is fairly quiet, Anastasia and Tessa chattering here and there. Christian and I make eye contact a few times and I know he can sense that I'm on edge. After our meals are done and we pay the bill Christian stands up.

"Hardin want to give me a hand outside getting the boat set up?" Christian walks towards the doors, me following behind. We walk down the stairs and walk back towards the boat.

"It wasn't what you think back there. And I know you think I'm lying to you, but those guys — they aren't good people." Christian says untying the anchors.

"Obviously. If it isn't what I think it is, then why did they come up to you like that then?" I say.

"I used to — before I got sober, I used to deal for that guy. Trey. He used to give me my supply and in return for payment I used to deal for him." Christian says.

"Why did he say it's been a few years. You said you were sober for ten years. When's the last time you saw him?" I'm so confused.

I still don't trust Christian for what he did, and then I find out this shit when I'm trying to get along with him.

"Three years ago. I did a few jobs for him and then I wanted to get out of it. I couldn't do it anymore, Theodore was a year old and I didn't want to put my family at risk." Christian says leaning his hands against the boat.

"Does Anastasia know?" I look towards the building where Anastasia and Tessa walk down the long step path with the kids, his kids. His family.

"No — Please don't tell her either, she would hate me if she found out what I was doing." Christian says.

I can't believe this. One thing after another, this mess. These problems. Anastasia and Tessa approach us, smiles on their faces.

I help Tessa into the boat, Anastasia lifting the kids into the boat one by one and then getting in herself.

I don't say a word the rest of the way back to the cabin, I catch Christian looking back at me a few times on the way back but I don't make eye contact with him. I'm pissed. How can he put his family in danger after doing it to his mother and brother.

He hasn't changed, he lied. He always fucking lies.

When we get to the cabin, I get out in silence and walk up the steps to the house. I walk inside, slamming the door shut behind me. I head towards the bedroom where Tessa and I are staying and grab the suitcase and start packing our stuff into it.

I hear the front door open and close, footsteps followed behind getting louder and louder. The knob turns and the door opens. Tessa stands in the doorway, a puzzled look across her face. I look at her, my eyes dark and my jaw clenched.

"What happened back there Hardin?" She speaks up?

"We're leaving Tessa." I continue to pack the bags, throwing clothes into the suitcase.

"Not until you tell me what the hell happened. What did you and Christian talk about?" She stands her ground, coming into the room and closing the door behind her.

"It's not about what we talked about. It's about what happened. It's always about what fucking happens with him. What he does, he always fucks up and I wish he was dead." I say before realizing what words were coming out of my mouth.

Tessa jumps back, startled about the volume of my voice. This isn't the first time she's heard me yell. But the way she always jumps back when I raise my voice, it breaks everything inside of me thinking the girl I love is afraid of me.

There's a knock on the door, Tessa and I both look towards it.

"Don't open it." I say before Tessa can reach her hand for the door knob.

"Hardin." She says quietly.

"Tessa." I match her tone.

She reaches out and turns the door knob opening the door. Christian walks into the bedroom.

"Hardin we need to talk."
