Hardin's POV
Tessa and I walk down the pathway after dinner that night. The crickets chirping in the distance. The street lamps light the path as we walk. Tessa laces her fingers into mine. My heart warms.
I stop and look at Tessa, grabbing her hips and pulling her close to me. She lets out a squeak.
"What?" She chuckles, smiling up at me.
"Nothing. I just love you so much." I tuck a lose strand of her hair behind her ear.
She rolls her eyes and smiles.
"You're so weird." She chuckles.
"I am not. I mean it. I want to spend my life with you Tessa."
I reach into my pocket and take out the box.
"Hardin." She says looking at the box.
"Tessa... before I met you — I was a mess. I didn't care about anyone but myself, I was set on being single for the rest of me life and fucking girls just because I can."
"Baby." She says softly, taking my cheek in her hand.
"I never wanted to get married before you. Even after you — I was so set on not getting married. But when you came into my life, I fell in love with you more and more with each day. Every time we fought I thought it was over and I was going to lose you forever. I don't want to let you go Tessa. I want you to be mine forever." I say.
She smiles at me.
"I am yours forever Hardin."
"Then marry me, Tessa. Marry me and make me the happiest man on the planet." I say opening the box up.
She gasps.
"Hardin — it's ... baby." She says, tears filling her eyes.
"Is that a yes then?" I ask.
She nods her head, placing her soft lips against mine.
She looks up at me, tears running down her cheeks. I wipe them.
"Hardin I love you." She says.
"And I love you, baby."
I take the ring out of the box. Tessa takes the ring in her hand and looks at it.
"Hardin it's beautiful." She smiles.
"Look on the inside, I had it engraved." I smile showing her the small words imprinted on the band.
She looks at the ring closely, reading the words. A smile grows wider on her face.
"Hardin." She cries kissing me again.
"I love you." I say.
I take Tessas hand into my shaky hands. Why am I so nervous? I slide the ring onto her finger and lift her hand up, kissing it softly.
"I wanted to make this special for you. I wanted it to be just right." I say.
"This is special Hardin." She says giving me another kiss.
We start walking again. Tessa looks at her hand, admiring the new ring on her finger. A smile across her face.
"I thought you didn't want to get married anymore?" I laugh, giving her a smirk.
"I didn't. But I'm not going to say no. I still have dreams you know." She sticks her tongue out at me.
"Oh really. I'm touched to be apart of that dream then." I point to myself, giving her a wink.
"I cant wait to tell Kimberly. And Landon, oh my god he's going to be so happy. And wait until Anastasia hears." Tessa says with excitement.
I roll my eyes.
"Women." I laugh.
"Shut up." She nudges me.
My life before her was so — so simple and decided. I had my life planned out to be alone forever. Now after her... it's just... after. I can't imagine life without her. She makes life worth living. I vow to make her happy, just as much as she's made me happy.
