Hardin's POV

I sit on the couch waiting for Tessa to finish helping Karen clean up in the kitchen. My father sits in the chair across from me, reading a book. I check my phone to pass the time. I see my father glance up at me a few times like he's hesitating to say something.

I begin to speak.

"Thanks for having us over."

My father lowers his book and looks up at me.

"You know you're welcome anytime. You're still my son and I love you."

I look down at my hands and smile.

"Yeah — I know." I don't know what to say. Shit I'm not good this.

Tessa walks into the living room, saving me from this awkward conversation.

"Well I'm exhausted." She smiles as she walks into the room.

"It's getting late we should be going." I stand up and walk to Tessa.

"Ill walk you guys out." Ken sets his book down and stands up from the chair.

Karen walks into the living room and joins Ken.

"Thank you so much for coming. It was good to see you two." Karen smiles giving Tessa a hug goodbye.

"Landon told me he's going to be visiting in a couple weeks? We will have to come for dinner." Tessa smiles.

"Yes please do. You guys are welcome anytime." Karen says looking at me with a smile.

"Thank you Karen. Dinner was delicious as always." I nod Karen and Ken before leaving.

We head to the car. I open the driver side door and get in. Tessa sitting down in the passengers seat.

I look at her as she smiles at me.

"You owe me." I point at her and smile.

"Oh stop. It'll give you all a chance to catch up and do some father." She laughs.

"No more making dinner plans for me." I lean in and kiss Tessa.

"Fine." She rolls her eyes kissing me back.

I start the car and pull out of the driveway and head home.
