Hardin's POV

I enter the restaurant searching for Vance and Christian. The hostess smiles at me.

"Just you today sir?" She asks.

"I'm waiting for two others. Christian Vance?" I ask her.

"Right this way, I'll show you to the table." She smiles leading me through the isle of the restaurant.

She brings me to a booth where I spot Vance. Vance gets up from the table, taking my hand to shake it.

"Long time no see. How have you been?" He says taking a seat back into the booth.

"I've been good. Tessa says hello by the way." I say taking a seat across from Vance.

Christian approaches the table, staring at Vance as he walks up. He freezes when he gets to the booth without a word.

Vance stands up and stands in front of Christian.

"It's — it's good to see you Christian. It's been years." He says.

Christian looks at him up and down and then looks to me. He looks back at Vance and shakes his hand.

"It's good to see you too." Christian says. I scoot over in the booth and Christian takes a seat next to me.

Vance sits down and looks at Christian.

"So how have you been Christian?" Vance says smiling. He's nervous.

"I've been pretty good. Up until last night when Hardin told me some shit. What the fuck is this about you being my — our father?" He asks getting straight to the point.

Vance let's out a deep breath.

He goes in to telling the story, the same story to me about how everything happened.

How our mum and him always had chemistry, and how Ken wasn't around because he was always studying. How our mum got lonely and they started talking again and things — sparked.

Christian looks at me and then back at Vance. He goes to speak.

"So basically, our whole lives could have been different if you would have just gotten the balls and told Ken the truth."

Vance sighs, sitting up in the booth.

"Yeah. Basically. I — your mum didn't want to though. I wasn't stable, I didn't have what Ken has." He says.

"So. Ken wasn't stable either. I don't know if you remember, but he used to come home drunk off his ass every day of the week."

"I know Christian, I know nothing I say can make it better. I had this same conversation three years ago. I know I fucked up. I know things could have been different."

"I just don't know. What about Ken? What do I do about him now?"

"He's still your father too. Hardin has a relationship with him. So can you. But now that your back, and now that you know — I would like to get to know you and have a relationship with you too." Vance says.

"Me too." Christian says.

"Good afternoon. My name is Thomas and I will be your waiter today. What can I get started for you today gentlemen?" The waiter gets his notepad out ready to write.

"How about some whiskey shots for the table." Christian says to the waiter.

I immediately look at Christian. Vance does the same.

"Christian I thought you didn't drink." I say.

"It's only one drink. We're celebrating."

"I don't think that's a good idea

"I don't think that's a good idea. Come on."

"Hardin lighten up. It's one drink. Since when did you get so tense." He says.

"Christian I think Hardin's right. No drinks. Come," Vance pauses.

"Okay both of you relax. I'm a grown man. I know what I'm doing. It's not like I'm snorting a line. It's one fucking drink." Christian laughs.

"Alright fine. One drink. No more yeah?" I say.

I mean, what's one drink going to hurt. I haven't had a drink in a few weeks, but it could really take the ease off the last couple of days. One drink, no more.
