Christians POV
It's the middle of the day, work is almost done. I can't wait to get home and relax. I've had so much going on, between reuniting with my brother and then finding out that my father isn't my real father and that his best friend is my real father. A drink sounds really good right now. One more drink won't hurt. It's not like before, drinking every night and getting high. Just a little something to take off the edge.
I look at my phone just as the screen lights up with Hardin's name on the front. I pick it up and swipe to answer the call.
"Hey Hardin..." I answer Hardin's call.
"Hey." Hardin replies.
"What's up? I was just about to leave work." I say closing my binder and shoving it into my briefcase.
"How are you. You know — after talking to Vance?" Hardin says hesitantly.
"I don't know how to feel. I don't know, Kens always been our father. A shit one but..." I say holding the phone against my ear with my shoulder.
"I know. It's still weird for me too." Hardin says in agreement.
"You and Tessa should come by tonight. Theodore has been asking about you." I say, changing the subject.
Hardin chuckles. "About me?"
"Yeah he likes you. All he's been talking about is uncle Hardin." I smile.
"I'll talk to Tessa. I'm sure she'd love to." Hardin says before hanging up the phone.
The elevator doors open and I step inside. I push the button to the lobby and the doors close. I watch the numbers light up as they go from 7...6...5...4...3...2...1. When I get to the lobby, the bell dings and the elevator doors open up.
I step out of the elevator and head for the doors. I wave to the front secretary who smiles at me.
Taylor, my body guard escorts me to my car. The driver opens the car door and I climb inside.
"Take me to zig zag on the way home." I say to my driver.
"But sir you're not supposed to drink." My driver says.
"One drink isn't going to hurt. It's been a day, I just need a beer." I say.
He looks at me through the rear view mirror and sighs taking a right turn at the light.

I take a seat at the bar at Zig Zags, the bartender gives me a friendly smile as she approaches me.
"What can I get for you today darling?" She has dark hair, in her early forties. She has a southern accent.
"How about a whiskey double, on the rocks." I say with a smirk.
She grabs a glass and scoops a few ice cubes into the glass. She pours the brown liquid over the ice and it crackles as it settles into the glass.
She slides the drink my way and I pick it up. I stare at the glass for a second, second guessing what I was about to do.
I've come so far, ten years sobriety, but my head was clouded with so many voices.
I can't forgive you Christian. Not after what you did.
How do I know those men aren't going to come around here
Vance — Vance is our father.
I bring the glass to my lips and tilt my head back letting the brown liquid go back into my throat. The liquid burns as it goes down my throat and I set the glass down on the table.
"One more." I say to the waitress.
She gives me a smile and grabs the bottle of whiskey pouring another shot into the glass.
"One more drink won't hurt." I say to myself, louder than intended. The waitress smirks at me as she walks away.
I grab the glass and put the glass to my lips one more time, throwing the liquid back into my throat.
I dig into my pocket for my wallet and pull out some cash. I leave it on the table and exit zig zags.
My driver looks at me studying my face. I get into the back seat and look out the window.
"Should we head home sir?" He asks.
I nod, continuing to look out the window. What did I just do? Ten years of being sober, I ruined it. I fucking ruined it.
I dig into my pocket for my wallet and pull the chip nestled inside between two twenty dollar bills. I pull it out and stare at it.
"To thine own self be true." I read the words on the coin.
I make a fist around the coin and hold back the tears trying to come out. I failed myself. I failed my family. The drive home is long. My thoughts are faded now, the voices in my head muted.
