"Happy birthday!" Marcy scares Sam into almost peeing on himself.
He makes a weird movement and almost literally hurts himself. "Ah!"
"Are you okay?!" She's concerned for him.
He straightens and breathes deeply. "Marcy."
"Are you okay?" She asks again.
"Yes." He's calm now.
"Happy birthday." She hands him an envelope.
He thinks it's a card but it's in an old-fashioned envelope. "There's a seal on this."
"I know. It's my wax."
"Are these your initials?"
"Yes."
"Wow!" It's a beautiful piece.
"Sam?"
"Yes?"
"Open the damn thing."
"Right." He opens it and takes out a letter. He skims it before going back to read it thoroughly when his dyslexia kicks his butt. "I don't get it."
"The words?" She's unsure on why he can't understand.
"Actually yes."
"Oh." She didn't expect that. "It's a letter stating that I know how it feels not to have a home. Nobody should ever feel that. And now your family never will again."
He still doesn't understand.
She hands him another envelope. This one is big and yellow.
He opens it and pulls out a sheath of paper. He knows he'll never understand these words. He raises his light brows.
"It's a deed."
"A deed?"
"To your brand new house."
"What?" He's really paying attention now.
"I bought your parents a house and I put it in your name. It's in a better neighborhood near a better school for your siblings."
"What? But-? But how are they going to pay a mortgage on a better house?"
"Sam? I bought it. I didn't mortgage it." She shakes her head. "They just have to pay taxes on the land it's sitting on and inside bills."
Sam is still having a hard time understanding. "How? How did you do this?"
"It wasn't hard." She makes an unimpressed face. "I called around Kentucky for a realtor and she found a great spot. The inspector loved it and said it was great so I paid for it and put your name on the deed. See? That way no one can take it away from you."
"No one can take it away?"
"Well unless you don't pay taxes but they're only twice a year and just over $1,000. I'm sure your parents can afford that."
He rushes to hug her, crying like a newborn baby.
She's unprepared for touching but she suspects he likes it if he's hugging her but the tears are throwing her off.
Puck, Mike, Mercedes, Quinn and Tina walk over. "What's going on?"
"Marcy's my bestest friend in the whole world!" Sam sobs.
"So... you're happy?" Marcy tries to connect the dots.
"Yes!"
She smiles. "Cool."
"What's going on, Sammy?" Mercedes rubs his strong back.
"Yeah and I thought we were your best friends!" Puck's upset.
