His sweatshirt doesn't smell of him anymore
His smile is starting to fade away from her memory
It's killing her that she's starting to forget the little things about him
When she heard the news that he wasn't coming back home
She fell to her knees and prayed that it was just a dream
He died doing what he loved, fighting for his country's freedom
He never got the news that she was having his child
Her child never got to meet his hero of a dad
But she tells him every chance that she gets
His dog looks out the window every day
He lets out a whimper every time he doesn't walk through the door
It breaks her heart cause he'll never see him again
When she heard the news he wasn't coming back home
She fell to her knees and prayed that it was just a dream
He died doing what he loved, fighting for his country's freedom
She stays on her side of the bed
Hoping that she can still feel the warmth where he laid
She bottles up her tears and tries to stay strong
She tries to stay strong and raise her son
He's a chip off the old block
She sees him in everything that kid does
It gets better knowing that he died doing what he loved
He left his mark everywhere and she still sees him in everything
The laugh of her child, the dent in the wall, and all the memories they had
He wanted to make a difference in people's lives
He had a heart of gold that made everyone smile
He will always be there for his family watching over them
