As time was passing I felt like I didn't want to go home, but the time for the dinner was only a few minutes away and I knew my mother will be furious. I decided to give her a call and let her know where I am.
"Guys, calm down, I need to call my mom and let her know where I am."
"Are you for real?" Sabrina laughed. "How old are you?"
"Stop it, Sabrina." Connor said to her. "Some people actually have parents that care about them."
"That's probably why she's the only one out of four of us that doesn't have a drinking problem." Jake smirked.
"Mom? Yeah, it's me. Listen, I don't think I will be coming for dinner tonight. No, I'm with a friend. Her name is Sabrina, you don't know her."
"Hello Celestia's mom!" Sabrina shouted.
"Yeah, that was her. No, we're not having a party, we're just chatting. Is it okay if I stay over for the night? Really? Thank you! Okay, goodnight to you too."
"We're gonna dance the night away." Sabrina tried to get up while holding onto Jake's shoulders but she couldn't.
"That is if you can even stand up." He seemed worried about her.
"Why wouldn't I be able to stand up? I just changed my mind..." She suddenly appeared to be very depressed. "Oh, guys... I ruined it. I've spent 364 days without drinking. I couldn't even last a proper year. I hate myself."
"Hey, you weren't in this alone. We're all guilty." Jake hugged her. I watched her sobbing in his arms wondering where her euphoria suddenly went.
"You shouldn't talk that way about yourself. You've done an incredible thing. Why wouldn't you celebrate? It's not like you will get to drinking all over again." I shrugged.
"It's easier said than done. I just wish I wasn't me anymore. I only keep making mistakes one after another. If I could become a different person my problems would be solved."
"We all think that way sometimes." I tried to comfort her.
"No, I don't think we do." Connor said.
"How do you mean?"
"Not all people wish for a second life. Take me for example. I don't regret anything I've ever done."
"You can't be serious. You really wouldn't take a second life if you were able to have it?"
"I definitely wouldn't. You only live once anyway. So in order not to wish for a second life at the end of it, one must either do something incredibly magnificent that makes him feel as he fulfilled his role in this life, or do something incredibly stupid that makes him not even wish for a second life."
"I suppose you did the second thing?"
"Well, that's irrelevant. But I have already said I don't have any regrets."
"But Celestia here seems as if she has a lot of regrets." Sabrina noticed. "Come on, tell us what's on your mind."
"Me? I am not sure how you are capable to know that just by looking at a person, but you're wrong. I don't have any regrets either."
"Don't lie, Celestia! We know you do! You look all innocent, and that to me is a sign!"
"Sign of what?"
"That there's something big underneath the surface. I bet you had a horrible heartbreak. And not that long ago... Trust me, I'm an expert at these things. I can smell a broken heart from miles away."
"I don't know what you're smelling, but it sure isn't my heart. I wasn't even in a relationship yet."
"Shut your mouth! Are you kidding me?"
