The most surprising side effect of my disease that I could have never hoped for was my mom suddenly changing her opinion of Connor. It was fun seeing them sit outside of our house by the pool talking like they knew each other for years while I was in my room getting ready.

When I came down and they have seen me walking towards them they seemed to be changing the subject all of a sudden, and Connor looked very embarrassed for some reason.

"Are you ready?" He stood up, clearing his throat.

"Yes." I nodded looking at my mom because she seemed suspicious to me for some reason. "See you later, mom!"

"Don't be late for dinner, Celestia!" She waived before we got into Connor's car.

"What did you and my mom talk about?" I had a feeling he didn't want to talk about that and I was afraid if I might trigger his addiction by asking too many questions.

"Oh, nothing... She wanted to know a little more about me. That's all."

"And? What did you tell her? Did you tell her about your... addiction?"

"You know, Cel... I don't usually come up to people saying hello I'm Connor, nice to meet you. I used to take drugs."

"You don't have to be sarcastic, I just asked."

"I know, I'm sorry..."

"Then what did you tell her?"

"The truth is, we haven't talked about me at all. She wanted to talk to me about you."

"About me? Why?"

"Well, she noticed that we are spending so much time together lately and because of that she suggested... She felt like I am taking you away from her, Cel. Like I'm wasting the time she has left with you."

"What? I can't believe her..."

"No, she is right. She said that who knows what would've happened between us in a few years or even months if you weren't sick. Maybe we would break up very soon. And she will always be your mother no matter what. I wasn't sure what to think about that at first but now I completely agree with her."

"So what does she have in plan? That we should all hang out together or?"

"No, she... Uh, she said that she is thinking about moving with you to Florida."

"Are you serious? No way, she can think about whatever she wants to but I'm not leaving."

"I think you should go."

"What? How can you say that?"

"She has every right to take you wherever she wants to. Think about it, you are her only child. If she loses you, I mean when she loses you... She will be left with nothing."

"I can't believe you would give up on us that easily! I'm having a feeling like you don't even care about me!"

"I love you the same if you're right beside me or if we're 1000 miles apart. What keeps me running is your loves, not your closeness, Cel."

"Well maybe you shouldn't." I crossed my arms and looked out through the window. "Maybe you shouldn't love me at all."

"You can't forbid me to love you. I will love you the same if you wanted to die for me or if you wanted to kill me."

"Just drive." I sighed and decided to ignore him for the rest of the ride. His love did not seem as genuine to me as it used to, now that he is ready to let me go so easily.

We arrived at the church for a new support group meeting that I pretended I wasn't interested in but deep down they were the only thing still making me feel as a part of the society and as a regular person, not one that is about to die.
