"I don't know why you kept trying to talk me out of coming here." I said to Connor as I was pouring soup for people at the homeless shelter. They stood in a big row each carrying a plate and patiently waiting for their turn. "This place is awesome."
"If you think so try living like one of them for a day." He said out of the kitchen that was just behind my back so I was able to hear his every word.
"It truly feels like we're doing something special. I believe it all comes back to you sooner or later. Do you?"
"Do I what?" I heard different noises coming from the kitchen which was implying he was very busy. But we all were. Sabrina and Jake were at the different room serving the food to those who weren't able to stand for too long.
"Do you believe in karma?"
"I don't know... I suppose I do."
"Well hello, little missy." A friendly man greeted me when it was his turn. I noticed when he smiled that he had no teeth.
"Hello, sir."
"Oh, sir! Do you know it has been over a decade since anyone has called me sir?"
"That's unfortunate. Here is your soup." I filled his plate.
"Thank you so much! God will reward you for helping the less fortunate like myself. But between you and me..." He leaned over the counter. "There are certain people here that don't deserve any help."
"Oh... Well I believe everyone deserves at least having a meal."
"Aren't you a sweet little girl. Let me ask you something... Do you mind if I eat my soup here on the counter while standing? I'll move out of your way so that others can come to their turn."
"Why?"
"I told you, some of these people in here are a very bad company. You don't wanna be around them. And neither do I."
"Oh, then I suppose it's alright. You can eat there."
"Thank you so much sweetheart." He moved to the side a little and I continued serving others.
He took one spoon of the soup and spit it out all over me. I was left looking at him in shock.
"What is this?! What did you give me?! Are you trying to poison me?!"
"Sir, I gave you what I gave to everyone else. It's a soup they made in the kitchen..."
"There you go still with the sir thing! It's not gonna help you! You're trying to kill me! Don't you think I've seen when you put something in my plate while we were talking?!"
"What? I didn't do anything..."
"You didn't put anything in my soup, huh?! Then why don't you eat it?!" He took his plate and spilled everything on me. I screamed because it was very hot. "There! Was that tasty?!"
"What's up with you, pal?" Connor came out of the kitchen.
"Hey, I don't wanna cause any trouble..." He sort of got scared when he saw Connor.
"It's too late for that, isn't it? Are you alright, Cel?"
"Yeah, it's getting cool pretty quickly but it burned me a little." I was looking at my ruined clothes wondering where I'll find other clothes to get home in. The last thing I want is to call my mother because she kept assuring me that this wasn't a good idea and I don't wanna show her that she was right.
"What are you looking at? Are you gonna apologize to the lady or you want me to make you?"
"That's alright, Connor... He doesn't need to..."
