The next morning, Bad was more energetic than the days before. Skeppy didn't seem to notice Bad's lack of energy before their talk until now which made him feel a bit of guilt, but he was happy that his friend was feeling better. Skeppy smiled at the thought and turned to the other, watching him skip along the path they were following with their map in his hands.
They had large backpacks hanging onto them as well, Skeppy carrying their hot cocoa they had bought which was seemingly becoming their new tradition to buy at each village they pass. They only had to pass through 2 more villages before making it to their destination, so they were excited, to say the least.
After a few hours of walking, a new village came into their vision. The village wasn't as far from the last one as they thought, this meant they had time to relax before continuing to the next village. Or, they could try and get there early. They decided to take some time to relax, they were in no rush after all.
The village they entered wasn't very different from the one they had just left. A few farms, homes and shops, and a village center. This time though, the center was a large tree with numerous lights hanging from its branches. The second the two boys looked at it, they knew it would be beautiful at night.
After a few hours, this thought was confirmed.
The two walked out of their inn which happened to be right in front of this tree. They stood at it in amazement as bits of lights floated around the area, almost like pixies dancing through the air. Magical light was released from the jars of mana hanging from the tree, and it was beautiful. Skeppy spotted a bench and tapped Bad on the shoulder to get his attention.
"Want to go sit there?" Skeppy asked, pointing to the small bench under the tree.
Bad smiled and nodded, the two walking off and sitting down. They stared up at the lights, warmth emitting from each particle. The cold from the winter surrounding them seemed to vanish as they stared at the sight.
After a few moments of silence, Skeppy spoke. "I'm.. really glad that I get to go on this journey with you." he said, not taking his eyes off of the lights surrounding them.
Bad's heart seemed to race as he turned to the other, his mind beginning to overthink. 'what does that mean..? Did he not before? Did he used to hate m-' He thought, being interrupted by an abrupt hug from the smaller boy.
"You're my best friend. I hope you know that." Skeppy said, his head buried in the other's chest.
Bad paused, blinking in confusing of the sudden affection, but smiled. He hugged his friend back and laying his head on the other's shoulder. "You're mine too.."
For some odd reason, the words 'best friend' seemed to crack the two's hearts. Like they wanted more, needed more. Like it wasn't always like this, as if it used to be more. This confused the two, but it didn't matter, not right now.
"Want to go visit this village's cafe?" Bad asked after a few moments of silence.
Skeppy backed away from the hug and nodded, "Sure." he smiled.
Bad got up and waited for the other before they were both stood and walked off. "I think it was this way" Bad said, walking off into the direction.
"Well, you've never exactly been great at directions, have you?" Skeppy said in a playful manner, chuckling a bit.
"Oh shush, you muffin." Bad said, holding back a laugh.
They really were glad to have each other.
