She weaved through the shadowy trees, the sound of footfalls pursued like an echo. Leaping over a fallen birch she sprinted up the steep hill, her pounding breath streamed white in her face as her heart beat wildly against her ribs. The crest of the hill came into sight, but the form jumped at her catching her legs and making her fall into the powdery snow. Pushing the creature off, she scrambled to her feet, kicking up snow. Glancing backwards, she saw nothing, but when she turned back around, the floppy creature had already made it to the summit before her and barked in victory.
She fell to her hands and knees in dramatic defeat, her long scarf and fluffy gloves going quickly cold. Laughing she crawled up to the dog and lay flushed on the snow. The warm animal lay across her quietly laughing belly. They listened to the sounds of their heavy breaths in the crisp air.
Blowing her brown hair out of her face, they watched the blanket of darkness stitch itself across the sky with its countless sequins sparkling delicately.
The darkness was slowly laced with thick clouds, letting fall their white feathers.
