I leaned against the wall of the hotel bedroom I was in and placed my ear against the door to hear what mom and Maya were talking about. "Fun fact. Before he built rockets for the Nazis, the idealistic Wernher von Braun dreamed of space travel. He stargazed. Do you know what he say when the first V-2 hit London?" Maya asked.

She continued, "The rocket performed perfectly. It just landed on the wrong planet. See, we all begin wide-eyed. Pure science. And then the ego steps in, the obsession. And you look up, you're a long way from shore."

"You can't be too hard on yourself, Maya," mom told her. "I mean, you gave your research to a think tank,"

"Yeah, but Killian built that think tank on military contracts," Maya said.

"That's exactly what we used to do, so don't judge yourself," mom said.

She's not wrong there. I mean, Stark Industries then used to build weapons for the military before the whole dad becoming Iron Man saga happened.

"Thank you, Pepper, I really appreciate that," Maya said.

I stepped away from the door and walked over to the bed before I sat down on the side, staring out the window. My mind kept going back to dad, I really hoped that he was okay.

A part of me knew that he was going to go after the Mandarin, cause well, he's Iron Man. He's a hero, even if most people don't see him as one, but it doesn't really matter cause I do. But still, another part of me wished that he would just come back home to me and mom. I just wished that things were back to normal and none of this was happening.

But then I hear something, a male's voice saying, "Hi, Pepper,"

I stood up from the bed and quietly climbed back to the wall to listen.

"So, you want to tell me why you were at Stark's mansion last night?" The male asked.

"I'm trying to fix this thing. I didn't know you and the master were going to blow the place up," Maya said.

"Oh, I see. So, you were trying to save Stark when he threatened us?"

"I've told you, Killian, we can use him," Maya said.

"Pepper, Pepper, Pepper,"

"Look, if we want to launch product next year, I need Stark. He just lacked a decent incentive. Now, he has one,"

I pulled away and began to tiptoed towards the window to see if I can go get help. But the minute I started to tiptoed, the floor creaked and I froze. I gulped as I quickly ran to the door and locked it before I scanned around the room. I quickly ran to the dresser and pushed it a bit so I could hide behind it. I heard the door being kicked open and I held my breath.

The floor creaks as the footsteps come closer and closer, then they stopped. I didn't hear anything so I let out a deep breath that I couldn't keep in anymore. The next thing I know was that I got yanked out from behind the dresser and came face to face with who, I'm guessing was Killian. Before he could say anything, I kicked him where it doesn't say causing him to groan and he released him. I took off running towards the window and started to opened the window.

I pushed the window up and was about to run onto the fire escape but before I could, I was pulled back inside and slammed onto the ground. I groaned in pain before I got yanked up to my feet again and met with Killian's face again. He simply stared at me without saying a thing, he looked me up from down.

Then everything went black.
