I worked on my homework in the office that dad was given. I mean, I got nothing else to do so I may as well finish up on my homework—which is pretty easy. "Hey, you...wanna see something cool? I pulled something from dad's archives," I heard dad said, I look up to see dad and Steve talking. I put my pencil down and spot AJ, our gazes meeting—I stood up and went over to my best friend, as we both shared a quick hug.

"Felt timely. FDR signed the Lend-Lease bill with these in 1941," dad sets out a set of elegant pens on the table, "Provided support to the Allies when they needed it the most..."

"Some would say it brought our country closer to war,"

"See? If not for these, you wouldn't be here. I'm trying to...what do you call it? That's an olive branch. Is that what you call it?"

"Is Pepper here? I didn't see her," Steve says.

I glance at dad at the mention of mom. "We're..." dad struggles with the sentence, "Kinda...well, not kinda..."

"Pregnant?"

"No. Definitely not, we're taking a break. It's nobody's fault," dad says.

"I'm so sorry, Tony. I didn't know,"

"A few years ago, I almost lost them both," dad jerks his head to me. "So, I trashed all my suits. Then, we had to mop up HYDRA...and then Ultron. My fault. And then, and then, and then, I never stopped. Cause the truth is: I don't wanna stop. I don't wanna lose them. I thought maybe the Accords could split the difference,"

God, all he wants is for me and mom to be safe. That's all he really wanted. In a way, that's why he wants the Accords to be signed.

"In their defense, I'm a handful," dad says.

Yes, he is, but I still love him.

Dad finishes, "Yet dad was a pain, but he and mom always made it work,"

"I'm glad Howard got married. I only knew him when he was young and single,"

"Oh, really? You two knew each other? He never mentioned that. Maybe only a thousand times. God, I hated you,"

"I don't mean to make things difficult,"

"I know because you're a very polite person,"

"If I see a situation pointed south, I can't ignore it. Sometimes I wish I could," Steve says.
