Warmer Wind

I wake up and stretch, only to see my room is still partly dark. I carefully get out of bed as to not disturb Ryuusuke who was laying next to me. I couldn't tell if he was awake or not, but he seemed comfortable. I open the curtains to see the sun rising over the city. I look at my clock and it reads, "5:45". I sigh. 'Too bad Ryuusuke's quirk doesn't have a timer.' I decide to take a nice, cold shower to fully wake myself.

I make sure to take off my necklace that Katsuki gifted me before stepping into the shower. I didn't want the pretty metal to rust. The water feels cool and refreshing against my skin. I frown as I think about last night's converstaion with Ryuusuke.

-----

"The League is coming for you." He stated.

My eyes widened, but I wasn't expecting the League to just let me go. "When? Aren't you working with them? What are they planning?" I asked.

"I'm not working with them anymore. When I heard about the plan to capture you, I left. I didn't want to be a part of that and I didn't want you to get hurt. They said they are going to come sometime this week. That's why I'm here at your house." He explained. "When Shigaraki took you away to inject you with the quirk removing serum, he also said he gave your quirk away."

"He gave it away? To who?"

"More like what. He said he gave it to some creature called a Nomu. I should've asked what it was!" He stated frustratedly.

"You don't have to." I replied. "I'm well aware what a Nomu is." I frowned deeply, remembering the attack on USJ. "What else are they planning?"

"I just know that they're attack is planned for some time this week and that they're going to cause as much chaos as possible." Ryuusuke stated.

"We have to tell the authorities!" I said. "And what were you thinking, not telling me?! You won't be able to fight them off yourself!" I reprimanded him.

"We can tell Aizawa, but no cops." Ryuusuke stated firmly.

I looked at him incredulously. "Ryuusuke, we have too. If we even get some of the heroes involved, they'll inform the police. You can't avoid it."

He furrowed his eyebrows. "I guess you'll be safer if the police are involved..." He trailed off. "I'll come by UA tomorrow and have a chat with the authorities."

"Wait, if you come, you'll get caught." I said.

He chuckled. "I'd rather go to jail than have you possibly die."

I smiled a bit. "Thank you."

-----

I turn off the shower and get changed into my uniform. I open the bathroom door to see Ryuusuke had left the bed. The smell of eggs and bacon then waft to my nose. I excitedly rush downstairs to see Ryuusuke cooking. "Good morning." He cheerily says as I walk over to the fridge and take out the carton of apple juice, pouring myself a glass.

"Good morning." I reply. "When did you wake up?"

"Three in the morning." He replies.

"Oh." I frown. "Why don't you go see a doctor about your insomnia?"

He chuckles. "I can't." I shoot him a questioning glance as he sets a plate of bacon and eggs down in front of me. "It's the only thing I have tying me to my family. My dad used to have insomnia that was passed down genetically. My mom had already been taken by cancer, so all I had left was my sister and my dad. Now that they're both gone, the only connection I have is my medical history."

He sighs, but gives me a smile. "You know, you remind me of my sister a lot." I quirk and eyebrow at him. "Sorry, I'm rambling." He gets up and takes the apron off. "I'm taking a quick shower, alright?"

I nod my head before he goes up the stairs. 'Even the toughest villains are still human.' I reach for the pepper shaker and accidently knock over the salt. I quickly clean it up as I think about what Ryuusuke mentioned yesterday about unlucky signs.

----

"Today we'll be practicing hand-to-hand combat. Get dressed into your PE uniforms." Midnight says.

Katsuki bumps my shoulder as we walk out of the class. He smirks and I send him a glare. "I didn't get to fight you at the Sports Festival, so let's have a rematch now."

"Fine, get ready to lose." I reply.

"Hah?! I'll be your ass any day!" He snaps before we head to our respective changing rooms.

"Hey, Kaniko," Tsu starts. "You're awfully quiet today. Something the matter?"

"No." She replies quietly. The girls look at each other while shrugging.

"Anyways, how are things with you and Bakugou?" Ochako asks teasingly.

I blush. "Huh? What things? Me and Katsuki? We're just friends." I quickly sputter.

"Oh, come on!" Mina groans. "Can't you two get married already?"

My face heats up even more. "M-Married?" I stutter.

"Pfft." Kaniko quietly giggles. I'm surprised by her sudden show of emotion and crack a smile.

I finish changing and head out when I feel a hand pat my shoulder, stopping me in my tracks. I turn to face Kaniko. "I need to talk with you." She says quietly. "Please?" She adds and I nod my head. We turn the corner instead of heading out to where we first had our quirk assessements.

A pause of silence passes, but it seems as if it isn't silent at all. Kaniko looks troubled and her words were being trapped by her closed lips. I wait expectantly as she finally looks me in the eyes.
My own eyes widen at the sight. Her eyes were bright and filled with emotion that she never had before.

"I'm sorry!" She exclaims as if she'd been holding back. "I was being a really horrible person and I'm sorry for that."
I give her a soft smile and she begins to relax a little. "I was calling you a traitor, even though you're so loyal to this class; I was trying to make you upset by taking Bakugou away; and I treated your friend like dirt.

"The other day, in that abandoned classroom, I felt like something clicked." She states. "I felt like I was holding on to this weight on my chest, but after that day, I let go. You helped me let go of my pain and I worsened your's. I really hope you can forgive me and give me a second chance." I stare into her blue eyes and I can tell she is genuinely sorry. Her voice wasn't bitter or fake anymore, it was heavy with emotion and soft.

I reply, "I forgive you and I'll give you a second chance, but you have to accept it, okay?"

Kaniko smiles a whole-hearted smile that I've never seen before. "I will!" She responds.

"And you should smile like that more often," I add. "It suits you better than your frown."

"Rei?" Shoto turns the corner. "The teacher is looking for you two."

I nod. "We're coming."

The bi-haired boy stares at us and cocks his head.

"What?" I ask.

"You two feel different." Shoto states.

I quirk an eyebrow. "Huh?"

"Nevermind." He replies with a small smile. "Your smiles are infectious..."

Kaniko and I giggle slightly before following Shoto back to our class.
