So much depends upon
A lead pencil
With an overused eraser.
Shiny, yet cracked plastic
Surrounds its contents
Trying to hold everything together
While it simultaneously cracks
Under the pressures
Of the world surrounding its shell.
So much depends upon a lead pencil
Abandoned on the floor tiles
Adjacent to a gum wrapper
After its final stick of lead broke.
