A pearl necklace on my afternoon rides
Shimmering 'til my pain subsides
But dust on the side of the road lifts
Clouds of new fear corrupt my courage depths.
A cartoon giggle catches my conscious
Filling my brain with memories and movie clips
But as the smile inches up my face
My nemesis' chuckle numbs my lips.
A grey cerulean mirror sits near me in the morning sun
Reflecting an innocence I lost within myself
But an evening moon moved into place
And the glass cracked under my pressured grace.
An old record in my over-the-hill heart
Serenading my soul with hidden solace art
But the promises crackle when they play
And a new CD will chime today.
