“Hey Cass! I see that you have finally met Gerald.” said Luke and indicated me to leave my bag on the round table we walk close by. “Come, let's grab something before the bell rings. We can't get late to classes, can we?”

“So, have you never ever been late to class? That's kind of unnatural for boys.” said Cassidy and picked up a tray from the lot.

“Well, I have been late to class once. That's all in my life.” replied Luke and smiled at Cassidy.

“Really! Wow! So unlike the guys in Hazelmoor. Most of the people always come late. You know just one or two minutes after the lesson starts.” said Cassidy.

“Seriously! That's so bad. I like punctuality. It's a big thing in my vocabulary. Have you ever been late to class?” asked Luke.

“Well, I have been late for classes like few times. You know, it's not the first time I have been transferred to a new school.” said Cassidy and got interrupted.

“So is it like your mum or dad change the job and goes around the world or so? Wow! Then you must be lucky. You know, it's so nice to go around and get new experience. I always wanted to go around and enjoyed the environment.” said Luke interrupting in the middle of Cassidy's explanation of being late to class.

“Well, actually it's not my mum or dad who changes job. My mum is not even working. It's just something else.” replied Cassidy and silently went on picking up what to eat.

Neither Cassidy nor Luke tried to converse with each other while picking up the food from the counter in the canteen. The silence was disturbed when a girl came in.

“Hey Luke! Have you seen Gerald?” asked the girl who looked a bit worried and messed up.

“Well, now. Why don't you try calling him Rosie?” replied Luke.

“Well, I did call him. Not just once, but like ten times, but he is not picking up his phone and he is not even there in the canteen. He promised in the morning that he will come to my table and eat with me.” replied Rosie.

“Well, I don't know about him. He never tells me any plan he makes. You know that. We are like soul enemies or something.” replied Luke.

Cassidy while having her snack was listening to the conversation between Rosie and Luke in the meantime.

“Hey, Gerald walked me down here. He must be somewhere around here.” said Cassidy jumping into the middle of the conversation.

“Who are you? And how do you know about Gerald?” asked Rosie, who really sounded like a girl with an attitude problem. Well of course she reacted like that. Or why would she cross her hands across her chest and looked at me like that?

“Well, Gerald is my bio lab partner. He walked me down here because I don't know the way to the canteen. So I asked him to show me because he said he is heading this way.” replied Cassidy.

“Well, this is Cassidy and this is Rosie.” said Luke and introduced. “Cassidy is new to here, Rosie.”

“Oh, no wonder I have never seen her here. And of course Gerald never had a permanent bio lab partner. So I was surprised to hear that he has a new bio lab partner. Now it explains everything.” said Rosie and smiled at Cassidy in a devilish way.

Rosie walked out from the canteen without bidding good bye. Cassidy was so surprised to see that Rosie has no manners and all and still spend time with a nice guy like Luke.

“Um. By the way, I just wanted to ask you a question.” said Cassidy after looking back at Luke who was busy eating his snack.

“Well, ask away. Don't keep it inside if it's bothering you.” said Luke with a surprised look drawn upon his face.

Luke looked like a kid who is filled with curiosity. Well, Cassidy thought that he was dying with curiosity. So she thought that she will ask him straight away.

“Was it just Gerald or did you too call me a potato hair?” asked Cassidy with a concerned look.

“Why would I call you a potato hair? Your hair is not potato colour to me.” asked Luke. “Sorry, by the way.”

“Why did you say sorry? If you didn't call me potato hair, then you don't have to say sorry.” said Cassidy.

“Well, I said on behalf of Gerald. He hurt your feelings there. He is like that anyway.” replied Luke and sighed.

“Why did you say that he is like? So, this is like not the first time that happened?” asked Cassidy curiously.

“He says stuff to every single girl's first day in high school. That's his nature. Just ignore his mean comments and all.” replied Luke. “Anyway, you promised me to help with French.”

“Yes, I did. I will help you just after finishing my snack.” replied Cassidy.

“I don't think we have that much time though. What about the library period? You can help me to find a book to read or so.” said Luke with a sweet smile.

“Okay. Then that's library period. I might get late because I have to find where it is.” replied Cassidy.

Just then the school bell rang to mark the end of the interval and the start of the third period.
