Unlike other days, Cassidy woke up late. She cursed the birds who chirped so loud for waking her up. After all, if they didn't so loud voices filled with gay she would have slept until her mother wakes her up.
Cassidy found her start of the day as a lousy start which she considered to be a bad sign. After having breakfast she started to play computer games. She continues to play computer games until her mother comes back home after work.
"Aren't you going?" asked her mother peeping into Cassidy's room.
"Going where?" asked Cassidy after pausing her computer game.
"THE PROM!!!" exclaimed her mother surprised to see that Cassidy has already forgotten the prom.
"Oh yeah, right. I'm going. But there are few hours more to go." replied Cassidy lazily.
"Come on! Get up. You have to get ready now." said her mother.
Why is she making such a fuss? It's just a stupid night. No phone, no computer, nothing!!! What fun can I have? It's just dancing the whole night. I hate to dance. So, so stupid. Just moving from here to there and wasting energy. Why can't we have a social gathering or something without limousine, rich and fancy dresses, jewellery pieces and compulsory dates. And high heels? Why do we have to wear those stupid shoes? I feel so stupid now. I feel like I'm a clown or a joker in it. More like a clown.
Cassidy got dressed slowly with the help of her mother. She felt so lazy to get dressed up, but she had no choice left but to listen to her mother's command and obey them.
Her mother dropped her to school as Greg was not at home that day. He was not even coming back home that day, according to her mother. Cassidy was so happy to hear that Greg is going to stay with his grandmother as she is sick.
"At what time do you want me to pick you up?" asked Cassidy's mother after Cassidy got down at her destination point.
"I'll get a ride, mum." said Cassidy while neatening her dress.
"Greg insisted on me to drive you back home." replied her mother sounding a bit worried about Cassidy's plan.
"Mum, it'll be okay. Mama, I'm a big girl now! I can take care of myself just fine. I'll take a ride. Don't worry about me, mum." replied Cassidy and closed the door so that her mother couldn't reply her back.
Cassidy entered looking around trying to find Gerald. She felt so embarrassed to enter alone without a date while other people enter as couples and pausing to take photographs.
No wonder Greg said he won't come alone to the prom. How embarrassing it is to enter alone and walk all alone in the red carpet while the other girls have dates. Wish he came! I could have at least have fun with Guy. Now, it looks like Gerald has ditched me and lied to me. Otherwise, he would have come to the entrance to walk down the red carpet with me.
"Hey! Cass!" said a voice behind her, addressing to Cassidy.
Cassidy turned around with a smile drawn on her face. She recognised the familiar voice which made her happy that someone she knows is there.
"Hi!" said Cassidy turning around and observed from top to bottom the guy who is standing in front of her. Then she said to him, "Wow! Luke, you look handsome."
"Thanks, Cass. You look fantastic too! Beautiful like a princess." replied Luke and took hold of Cassidy's arm.
Cassidy sighed during the moments of silence that passed in between them. Both of them were busy looking around and observing every single couple that they can spot who has come to the prom. All of them were dancing happily.
"Looking for someone?" asked a female voice startling both Luke and Cassidy.
"Oh, hi." said Luke in a low disappointed voice.
"Hey! Aren't you supposed to be with Gerald, Cassidy?" asked the girl stepping close to Cassidy and flipping her hair.
"I can't seem to locate him." replied Cassidy as if she is speaking to a dead ghost.
"Really, Cassidy? Maybe that's why you two were holding hands and talking." replied the girl.
"No, we were trying to locate two of you." replied Luke trying to defend the accusations that come as arrows towards them.
"Oh I really hope so. I've been keeping my eye on you guys. Why are you so jealous about Gerald? Because he is with Cassidy and he is doing way better than you?" asked the girl in a nasty tone.
"Seriously, Rosie? I have way better friends and a social circle than the people Gerald associates with. I have everything I want and I am happy." said Luke, keeping a note in his head as he knew that the last line he said was wrong. There is one thing that he craves to have for himself.
"You really think so? Well, you will lose something that you love the most." replied Rosie and gave a nasty, wicked smile at him that send shivers to Luke.
"Really? We'll see about that later. Wanna bet?" asked Luke with full of confidence.
"Sure, why the hell not? We'll see about it tomorrow. You are making the biggest mistake in the world. Remember that." replied Rosie and walked away while flipping and twitching her hair.
The next dance started and still there was no sign of Gerald. Both Luke and Cassidy went to a corner and watched everyone dance happily. Happy faces filled with joy can be seen everywhere throughout the hall.
"Can I have your attention please." said the principal interrupting the music and the dance.
The hall swept with silence and everyone stopped doing what they were doing. It was so silent that it was silent enough to hear even a drop of a hairpin to the ground.
"What's going on?" asked Cassidy in a whisper as she didn't want to listen to the principal's speech as she always found it very boring. She would prefer someone singing a lullaby instead.
"Announcing the prom king and queen." replied Luke, bending his head so that he can whisper.
"Why does the principal announce the name?" asked Cassidy confused.
"Go up the stage. You are one of the nominees." replied Luke and pushed Cassidy forward as she showed no sign of moving forward.
Cassidy got on to the stage and saw from the corner of the eye Gerald beaming happily.
"The Prom King and Queen for this year is..." trailed of the principal and paused for a minute or two.
"The Prom King is Gerald Gambles." announced the principal and placed the crown.
A round of applause filled in the hall which was not much loud. Cassidy wondered why others seem to be unhappy about it.
"The Prom Queen for this year is Cassidy Blythe." announced the principal.
Everyone clapped their hands so loud in approval while Cassidy couldn't believe what happened.
Is this really happening or am I dreaming? How can I be nominated as the Prom Queen and get the highest votes? Rosie will kill me now or hacked to death with the fork.
