Chapter Nineteen - Dance Preparations

"I can't believe that BRUTE!" Winry raised her voice in frustration as she and her flat mates walked down the road to Amestris High. Erin sighed. It was true, they were involved with almost everything bad that happened at their school. From the food fight, to the most recent dilemma which had painted the floor and walls of the canteen red.

"Well at least we have the Dance to look forward to" Erin pointed out, trying to stay positive.

"Oh, about that, you have to help prepare the gym for the School Dance" Winry grinned at her friend, glad it wasn't her.

"What?!"

"Yeah, and you have to do it at lunch"

"Aww man!" Erin slumped and kicked a pile of leaves which had just been swept into a nice neat pile by the side of the pavement. The golden maple leaves scattered everywhere, under the feet of the students as they walked over them. "In my spare time?! Why?!"

"Well, you were involved in that fight remember?" Edward pointed out. "It's further punishment from Bradley. About that, what really happened?"

Erin looked down and blushed slightly. "I-I told you. I started the fight"

"You actually think we would believe that?" Al laughed. "Erin, we live in the same house as you. We know you would never do something like that"

"Yeah, so spill. What really happened?" Winry pressed the issue.

"Alright fine!" Erin's head shot up. "Brad was being a perv and asked me to the dance and then I said no and he grabbed me and I was screaming let me go and then Envy came and protected me and beat the snot out of Brad for grabbing me and then Bradley came and everyone started chanting fight fight fight and I took THE BLAME BECAUSE ENVY DID SUCH A NICE THING AND I COULDN'T LET HIM GET IN TROUBLE FOR STANDING UP FOR ME!"

Erin stopped ranting and swallowed for air, taking deep breaths. Winry and the Elrics just stood, trying to take in the bomb of information that had just landed on their noggins.

"Right, so you took the blame because you wanted Envy not to get in trouble?" Edward tried to make Erin's long story short. She just nodded.

"HA!" Al exclaimed. "I knew it! Of course you couldn't have done something that mean! You're ERIN for crying out loud!"

.

.

When it came to the time everyone loved the most (lunch time) Erin had to head the opposite way from her friends to get to the gym, where the School Dance was held. She had heard murmurs that it was going to be a Halloween theme, since the celebration of all things paranormal and gruesome was just around the corner. Erin entered the gym, and was taken aback by how different the place looked when it had been decorated. It was less empty, more colourful and party like.

"Erin. There you are" Bradley came over to the student, his usual friendly smile plastered on his face. Erin just nodded in reply.

"Yes sir" She simply said. "I was told to come here by my tutor"

"You will be helping prepare this gym for the School Dance, and it will be a halloween theme."

"Yes sir" Erin repeated and made to go and get her assignment over with.

"One more thing." Bradley stopped her. "You do know you need a date to this dance?"

"Yes"

"Do you have one?"

Erin didn't like what the head teacher was getting at. He didn't need to know about that, but Erin knew she couldn't lie again.

"No sir. I don't have a date yet"

"Well you're in luck. I've asked Brad to take you"

Erin's mouth dropped open. No. NO. He was the dick who had gotten her into this mess, and now she had to go to the dance with him and do the very thing he wanted? NO. Simply NO.

"Sir, I don't-"

"Erin, you are the student who dared Envy to beat Brad and started this whole ordeal. The least you can do to say sorry is to go to the dance with the boy."

Erin opened her mouth to protest, but she didn't get a chance since the teacher turned on his heel and walked out of the school hall. As soon as she was sure Bradley was gone, Erin cried out in frustration and kicked over a box of streamers and confetti, making it fly all over the clean floor.

"HEY!" Another pupil (who had just spent the last 15 minutes sweeping the floor of the gym) shouted at her from across the hall. "What the hell man?!"

.

.

"Just go ask her!" Edward told his brother, mentioning to the most recent addition to their form. Jayme sat joking and laughing with Mimi, probably about girly things.

"But what do I say?" Al asked, blushing slightly.

"It's easy!" Ed laughed.

"If it is that easy, why haven't you asked me out yet?" Winry said quietly to herself, pouting. Ed didn't hear her, and just turned around to face her.

"Huh?"

"Nothing" Winry frowned, crossing her arms.

"Just go to her and ask. It's that simple!" Ed pushed Alphonse forward towards the beautiful Chimera. "Go!"

Al walked up to Jayme unsurely, hands in his pockets. It was the only way to stop himself from playing with his nails like he always did when he was nervous.

"J-Jayme?"

The dark haired girl turned and smiled sweetly at the alchemist. "Yeah?"

"Would you-I-I mean could you-If you want to go-"

"My clueless brother here wants to know if you would be interested in going with him to the School Dance" Edward jumped in to Al's rescue, asking Jayme the question his little brother was finding hard to ask.

"Sure!" Jayme smiled and pushed her cute glasses further up her nose. Alphones blushed.

"R-really?"

"Yeah, I find you cute. Besides, all the guys are too scared of me and my wings to ask me"

She then turned back to her conversation with Mimi as the Elric's walked away back to their table and Winry.

"See. Was that so hard?"
