Chapter Twenty Six - Lost and Found

By now, the School Dance really did have a Halloween vibe. The place was pitch black, occasional flashes of light revealed the utter chaos for no more then a second at a time. Students shrieked and blindly tried to find their way out of the gym, relying on the few streaks of light. Amongst the mayhem Dawn stood, by the DJ decks with Shinx. She grinned as she watched, and listened to the terrified students.

"You have to ruin everything for them?" Shinx asked his master, no doubt disliking Dawn's methods. "There are less horrible ways to scare kids you know" 

"Yes, but in this complete darkness I can do something I could never do with the light on" 

"What's that?" 

Dawn just smiled back at her loyal companion. She clearly meant 'no one humiliates me and gets away lightly'. Shinx knew she'd done something creepy, but he didn't want to start guessing either. Dawn scared even him at times, but he was bound to her and was probably the only one who had seen what Dawn can truly do up close, and live. He tried to change the subject.

"Well you could have at least let me finish the song" 

"Bwahahaha!" Dawn cackled with laughter, amused by her furry little friend. "Oh Shinx! If I did then the power cut wouldn't have been so sudden!" 

Probably the only calm being in the hall was Jayme. She, for one, was using her IQ to locate an exit.

"I think I found the door!" Jayme squealed, fingering something that felt a lot like a fire escape door handle. She didn't wait to be completely sure, just pushed on it with all her might. To her luck, the door swung open, cold air blasted into the enclosed hall. 

"Yes! I found the-" 

All the other pupils spilled out into the car park outside, running over her like a stampede of wild horses. 

"Jayme, are you alright!?" Al extended a hand and helped the poor chimera off the ground. 

"Yes, I'm okay" Jayme huffed, brushing her purple dress off, bending over again to pick up one of her heels. She turned back to the adrenaline pumped students. "ANIMALS!" 

"There you are" Edward came up to the two, Winry and Erin in tow. "I'm sure Dawn has something to do with thi-" 

"OH she does does she?!" Erin interrupted, not caring to let Ed finish. "I swear on MY MOTHER'S GRAVE when i get my hands on THAT DEMON I WILL-" 

 "Alright, alright, chill Erin!" Winry looked at her friend, making gestures with her hands. "What did she do to you that was so bad, we were all in there-" 

"What did she do?! I WAS THIS CLOSE TO-" Erin cut herself off like she did Ed and Winry, her cheeks burning up again, her sweet character coming back. "never mind..."

 "Hey freaks" Greed came waltzing up, addressing the group of friends. "Have you seen my date get out of that dark hole? I can't find Mimi anywhere" 

"She's probably somewhere around here" Erin huffed, crossing her arms. She wasn't crazy about having Greed around or calling her and her friends freaks, and right now that just added to her crabby mood. 

"No, we haven't" Jayme inquired. She pushed her glasses further up her nose, getting her thinking face on. "Maybe she's still inside" 

"Oh, you don't know that" Winry said. "You were one of the last people out of there" 

Jayme frowned in reply. "Hey. I found the door. If it wasn't for the mad wave if kids I would have been the first one out!" 

"Look, if she's not out here, then I'm looking in there" Erin interrupted, marching towards the fire exit through with everyone had spilt out moments ago. She didn't want to stay outside any longer. It was cold, wet, dark and noisy. She had just lost probably the only chance she was ever going to get at smooshing her face into Envy's. Her footsteps echoed into the hall as she entered. The gym was eerie not being lit up with all the disco effects, the only sign of light gathered in a pool at the open door, thanks to the yellow car park lamps. Quiet scratches from the deserted DJ decks added to darkness and its suspicious aura.
