It was the first time in ten years that you had seen him- Min Yoongi. You were working a regular shift at the hospital when you were told a patient needed to be seen immediately. The patient was an important celebrity who had collapsed during one of their concerts and was rushed straight to the nearest hospital. You knew they'd be an idol but never imagined it would be your childhood best friend Yoongi.

You grew up together for thirteen years, becoming friends when you were three. You had always supported Yoongi and knew that one day he'd be an amazing idol. He knew of your passion for art and always encouraged you to pursue that dream. You would have gone to an art school (though Yoongi said you didn't need to) but when you turned sixteen, your parents had told you that you were moving nearer to Seoul. They wanted you to be a doctor and were not taking no as an answer.

That was how you ended up in your situation, checking Yoongi's heart rate and blood pressure and trying to figure out what caused him to collapse.

"He seems to have collapsed from exhaustion, there's nothing wrong with his body or organs. Has he been resting and eating properly?"
You asked his six band members, trying to mask the shock of seeing your old best friend in such a state.
"We've been so busy touring that he hasn't really rested at all. He's been eating but less than usual."

You continued to talk, mostly with Namjoon as he knew the most. As you were talking, a tired voice spoke.
"What happened?"
You turned to face Yoongi and began to speak.
"Ah, Mr Min, you collapsed on stage so you were brought here. You seem to be fine but it is recommend that you rest for a few weeks."
His eyes widened in shock after hearing what happened. That shock turned slowly to confusion as he read your name tag.
"Dr L/n. That's a pretty uncommon last name..."
He paused before asking his question.
"You weren't raised in Daegu were you?"
You looked a little surprised seeing that he recognised you.
"I was, actually."
You smiled as the realisation hit him.
"Y/n?"
His band mates all seemed very confused before the youngest spoke up.
"Wait, so you're the Y/n that Yoongi told us stories of?"
You nod.
"I'm surprised you recognised me honestly."
"How could I not recognise you? You were my best friend for over a decade!"

He seemed more than happy to talk with you, wanting to know what had happened over the ten years you lost touch.
"How come your a doctor now? You never wanted to be a doctor when you were younger. Do you still paint?"
He had so many questions.
"My parents wanted me to be a doctor. I didn't have much choice in the matter but it is nice helping people like this."
He nodded along as you spoke.
"I still paint, though not as often. There's not much time for that anymore..."
He seemed saddened by what you had said.

After he was discharged, he gave you his number. You were still the same Y/n he knew, just ten years older. You messaged each other everyday, meeting up once or twice a month. Usually he'd visit you, just to see you paint or draw.

"Are you happy as a doctor?"
That question came seemingly out of the blue but you knew he'd been dying to ask ever since that day at the hospital.
"I,"
You paused and a deep sigh left your mouth.
"No, not really. I'm only a doctor because of my parents. It's definitely rewarding but it's not what I wanted."
"Then quit."
He said it so bluntly.
"What?"
"Quit. The Y/n I knew would've never given up on his dream and I know that you haven't. If you don't succeed, you can at least say you did what you wanted, not what someone else wanted for you."
You knew he was right. You knew that you should've followed what you wanted so many years ago but your parents were strict and all you wanted was for them to be proud.
"If I quit, my parents will be so disappointed and-"
You were cut off.
"Why do you care if they are disappointed. They aren't you. They aren't living your life. I'll support you the entire journey, the same way you supported me. My parents didn't believe I could become an idol, but here I am. I followed my passion because of you."

You had opened up commissions as soon as you quit. Yoongi wanted the world to know how amazing your art was and put a link to your commission page everywhere. Soon enough you had to temporarily close you commissions as you had so many to work on. You specialised in oil painting though you also did digital art and that was what most people went for.

Yoongi often watched you work, smiling as you asked him how things looked. He was your biggest fan.

You two were sat in your home studio (it was still crazy to think you had one of those) and Yoongi was eagerly watching you paint a portrait of someone's dog.
"This is the Y/n I fell in love with."
He was so lost in thought that he hadn't realised he had spoken out loud.
"You're in love with me?"
You had put your brush and pallet down and looked at him, eyes wide.
"I said that out loud?!"
He sounded panicked and a silence fell across the room.
"How long?"
"What do you mean?"
"How long have you been in love with me?"
He looked down at his lap.
"I only realised I loved you when you moved away. It was probably a year or two before that when I actually fell in love. We can just forget about this though and we don't have to mention it again."
His eyes were filled with tears.

Everything he had said was hard to process. You pulled him into a hug.
"I have loved you since we were thirteen and that love never went away. Do you want to give us a chance? I understand if you don't, I know how difficult relationships must be as an idol."
As you both separated from the hug, he nodded.
"Not giving us a chance would be the biggest mistake I could ever make."
