Namjoon looked around the train anxiously. Although many seats were empty, he didn't know where to be. They all seemed dusty and looked as if they hadn't been sat in for years. An old woman noticed the anxious man and patted the seat next to her.
"Come over here young man. This ride is awfully long to be sat on your own."
She spoke in English, making Namjoon relieved that he knew the language.
"Thank you."
He sat next to the woman and that was how they began talking."You know, you look like my husband when he was young."
She smiled warmly at Namjoon and pinched his cheeks.
"He had the same dimples as you, the same smile too. He's waiting for me at the station you know."Namjoon nodded along as she spoke. She told stories of her husband and how he fought in the war.
"My grandson will be there too."
Namjoon smiled sadly at the woman.
"How old is he?"
"Not a day over five. My daughter misses him a lot but I know he's happy with my Michael."
The way she spoke so lovingly of her husband made him think of his fiancé.The woman turned to him before speaking again.
"I know that look in your eyes. You have someone waiting for you too."
He sighed heavily, thinking of the man he loved.
"He was my fiancé. He boarded this train five years ago. I was nearly twenty and he was nearly twenty two."
The woman nodded.
"How did it happen?"
Namjoon was hesitant to respond.
"A drunk driver. We were driving home from dinner. I had proposed and we were so happy, nothing could've ruined it for us. Then the car came out of nowhere and hit us from the side."
His eyes welled with tears.
"He died at the hospital. The doctors said I was lucky to live. It didn't feel like it at the time."
The woman held Namjoon's hand.
"He'll be there, waiting at the station for you."The rest of their conversation consisted of stories of their lovers.
"Y/n lit up every room he entered. Every day was new and exciting and even if we just stayed in bed, being with him was enough for me."
The way they both spoke so fondly of the people they'd lost was enough to warm even the coldest of hearts.A blinding light hit his eyes as the doors opened. After a second, he was able to see what was outside. He gazed in awe as he saw Y/n. The boy was not a day older and was even wearing the same clothes.
"This must be your stop. Thank you for keep me company while you were here."
Namjoon smiled, tears streaming down his face. Gently hugging the woman, he said he goodbyes and ran off the train, into Y/n's arms.
"Took you long enough Joonie."
Namjoon could do nothing but sob as his fiancé held him tight. A comforting hand rubbed his back to soothe him.
"It's really you."
He spoke between sobs.
"It's really me. I've missed you so much Joon. I waited for you ever since I got here."The two males stayed in the embrace for what felt like hours. It had been long five years since he'd lost his love and they had finally made it. The train home for many, is tough and saddening. No one really wants to believe it's all over but for Namjoon, the train ride was just the beginning of new life.
