She sat staring at the sparkling water, ignoring the cold creeping through her body. She already had little feeling anywhere, but it didn't seem to matter. She needed to think, but she'd been trying for hours to no anvil. She knew exactly what she needed. She knew she should get back- that they were probably already looking for her. At that moment, as she tried to gather the energy to go see her family, she heard those all too familiar footsteps behind her. She almost smiled. He sat on her left, warming the air and making her crave his touch even more. Before she could think, she tucked herself into his side as his arm wrapped around her waist. She sighed, as if she was in pain and he was her painkiller.

"I'm sorry," was the only thing she could think to say. He simply held her tighter in response. "I really am. That wasn't my answer. This isn't how this should go," she muttered. He chuckled quietly and said, "And since when have we been the most traditional?" She smiled and stood, bringing her pirate with her. They stood there that way, his hands on her waist and hers on his shoulders, for what would seem like an eternity to anyone else. Emma moved her hands to his face and stared into those ice blue eyes that are anything but cold to her. She grinned and with a simple "yes", she brought out a smile that belonged to young and hopeful Killian, not the sarcastic and cunning pirate she met just a few years ago. With that smile that made her melt, Killian pulled her even closer, and she went all too willingly to meet his lips with hers.

Of course she'd been kissed before, but with Killian it was different. With Neil, her first love, it was like her stomach was full of embers- warm and comforting. But Killian? He set her body into a wild fire, leaving a white hot path everywhere he touched, chasing the cold from her lips. She never wanted to break away, hating her clawing need for oxygen.

Always in sync, they broke away at the same time with huge smiles on their faces. Their lips may have parted, but there was no space between them as he slid the ring on her left hand. She giggled, truly excited for the things to come.

Emma sighed, the smile never vacating her face. "Come on," she said, "we have an engagement to announce." Taking her hand, Kilian walked with her to start their future.
